Read a post about Jill passing; the minature shepherd and was wondering do or did the potatoe she got kill her.Are potatoess toxic to dogs?

I would assume they are dangerous if they are swallowed whole and get lodged and caanot pass it!

cooked potatoes are fine:)

raw and green potatoes contain Solanine (very toxic even in small quantities)
the potato is a member of the nightshade family.

No, a cooked potato is a very good source of carbs for dogs, many specialty foods contain them as carbs in place of grains. Sweet potato is even better. I suspect she may have choked on it as the dwaf shepherds are pretty small. They also have some difficult health issues due to the dwarfism being caused by a pituitary imbalance.

Now if she swallowed a potato"e", the toe jam might have been a bit rough. Sorry could not resist it, the whole Dan Quail thing has me sensitive to that misspelling!

My dogs have in the past stolen and eaten potatoes and had no side effects. I suspect that they are like other things such as chocolate in that some animals can eat what they like and have no side effects and for others a small amount can be lethal.

JILL DIED AS A RESULT OF HER SWALLOWING A COOKED POTATO WHOLE AS SHE KNEW THAT SHE HAD STOLEN SOMETHING SHE RAN OFF WITH IT IN HER MOUTH RATHER THAN STAYING STILL AND CHEWING IT
