The besting in the test by chimps is explainable in the context of survival. Chimps MUST be able to memorize where fruit producing trees are in the forest. They must be able to pinpoint the location of every tree they depend on for sustenance...humans need to remember where the grocery store is but they have street signs and landmarks such other stores with which to navigate their way. In the chimps world, the forest is mind boggling to us humans and would a be severe challenge to city people if we had to depend on locating certain fruit bearing trees when the fruit is ripe.
