Eve had her puppy. Yes it was a singleton. Very large (1.4 pounds) female and all black. Not a mark on her anywhere - not even under the tail or between the toes. I was told by the vet that this can happen when you breed late as I did. Eve will be 5 this year and this is her first litter. I am breeding her back to back so the next breeding will be in September or November - whenever she comes into heat.

I can see so far that Hank has brought his size to this puppy and Eve her drive. Anastasia (Taz) for short, is extremely active and per the vet acts like a week old puppy. Very vocal, aggressive nurser - no worries about latching on or hanging on! Now that we have the first one out of the way, the vet says Eve will have no problem producing a regular size litter this next time. I am excited and happy that all is well!

wow only 1 pup I,ve had that happen only once, that is a very large pup you are lucky she got it out alive, I don't think a five year old female is that old I guess your vet feels otherwise, was it a live cover breeding ? I have a female due in 6 days from her size I,m guessing maybe 6 in there.

I bred a female first time who was five, she had six pups, all survived.
Your female might have resorbed the litter. It's usual for a singleton to be oversized at birth...they get All the nutrition in utero. That's why only one or two pups is dangerous for the bitch. Sometimes they don't have enough hormones for labor or milk.

Live cover and we did a C-section. I was extremely lucky in that I have great mentors and great vets who walked me through this and kept me ever diligent. She started to nest but never actually went into labor. So I presume it was because there was only one. All of her insides look great according the vet so no issues on back to back. Maybe this was nature's way of getting me prepared for a huge litter next time! Meanwhile I will have a couple of months to evaluate this baby and see what some of the possibilities of the next litter will be! Sort of like a preview!

Yes glad to see that pup safe and in good hands is she the First pup of Hank to be whelped on American soil ?

by Dyrewolf on 24 July 2015 - 20:07

I don't think she is the first but I could be wrong. It would be nice if she was the first female to be whelped on American soil! Anywho, Eve's pedigree in on here under Eve Von Mountainlake. Not sure how to put the link here so maybe someone else could assist.
