just for fun;

They would probably make good rally dogs in the US, but you can't use toys in the ring. Do you show them in OB in Oz?

congrats VK4! Dogs go into drive and remain in positive drive while under the owners guidence. Imagine if all dogs wanted to please the alpha this way. A thousand mile journey starts with the first step. I notice that you take the pup into drive with a jute rag and then you demonstrate control with the rag on the ground in the area. I have seen accomplished competiton handlers do similar ''warm ups'' in the stadium at national events.

I like your backyard.....
and I like your dogs, especially "pup" - he seems to be quite a tank.
Blitzen, this kind of obedience is "just for fun", not suitable for any ob trials, different, but not at all worse.

AKC said rally was intended for people to have fun with their dogs in the ring. On the down side, I think it can teach dogs bad habits that will hurt them in novice. open, and utility. Handlers can give commands multiple times, can use both hand and voice commands at the same time and dogs are not graded for accuracy in rally, no decuctions for crooked sits, etc. It can still be fun for owners and dogs who aren't into the more regimented OB classes. AKC does offer rally titles, but they are not considered OB titles. vk's dogs look like they would do well in rally if they offer it in Oz.

No "rally" in Germany - I think we are too "Prussian" for this kind of mindset

I'll bet you dont have mixed breeds at your shows either, do you? AKC is always looking for ways to make money. There is a fairly new title called barn hunt where dogs hunt for rats in cages hidden in bails of straw. And we now have a Canine Good Citizen advanced. Geez........

thanks, rally has just started here in last few years, took off pretty quick in AKC circles. it looks like fun.
i can't be bothered enough to do regular structured training, fill out nomination forms, travel to comps.......sounds horrible.

There are "mixed breeds" shows in Germany, too, held mostly by rescue organizations. It´s fun for pet owners, I don´t mind.
But I never heared abou t "barn hunt". That´s weird...
