most beautifull Shepherds that I have ever seen.My wife is a real looker to for 67 years old Ha,Ha.

The trainer  lives in Brooklin Ont. Canada.

As you can see Ikon is 100% wes German show line.

John, very impressive. Did your wife accomplish all those titles?
I'd like it better if the trainer would have the dog strike rather than shoving the tug at him for the bite. Take your time and build his confidence. :-)

Good foundation work for grip and self-confidence.

Susie, are you seeing " good foundation wok for grip and confidence" ? Or are you advising? To me, I saw better grips in beginning of session, and later on, I saw munching.

Is that Tim Helser you're letting work your dog?

by vk4gsd on 14 April 2014 - 20:04

Holy crap yr wife is the hottest 67yo on the planet.

Good for you guys working and titling him. Big fellow also. How much does he weight?

However I have to agree with Joanro.

I would like to see you all take your time to develop him. Take a step back and award the dog for "countering" deep and full by letting him have the tug, run a little with him and then calm him with the full deep bite. When running and/or calming him do not let him chew. Once he learns to bite deep (if that is possible) then proceed with the fighting. The tug should be "prey". The rabbit does not jump into the dogs mouth. Once he bites the tug full and deep have the decoy do "pendulum swings" à la Helmut Raiser to keep the dog in prey and not bring on stress that may be the cause of the munching. Then to really set his bite have him do "pull backs" Just a thought.

Nice dog, good luck.

Joan, I read the dog is 4 years old, and it´s the second session only - and I know that even over here world class helpers are not living around the corner.
You only can try to do your best, and have fun. If you start to question the methods and experience of every helper in the States, there will be not much places for training any more.
This work doesn´t harm the dog, I´m pretty sure they will have some success. Sooner, later - who cares?
This woman is working her dog, after a lot of AKC titles she is willing to try IPO now.
You are able to badmouth almost everything, but sometimes people should appreciate that there is somebody trying to learn and trying to train.

I´m pretty sure she´ll do it - she proved that she is able to train in AKC, and I really hope, that she will be able to show her score card at the end of this year, maybe next year.

Susie, I beg your pardon, are you saying that I am "bad mouthing"the efforts of Gouda and his wife? Because I was trying to be helpful, but if your attitude is "who cares"....smh. And good helpers are few and far between here in the states, my helper has had health problems for several weeks now, so I haven't been able to work my dogs lately...I could call some smuk and work if i didn't care about quality work...because poor helper work can cause damage to a dog especially just starting a dog, as with Gouda's. The foundation work will make or break a dog. Pretty sure you know that Susie.

Btw, I said "very impressive" in my first post, which is a complement, not bad mouthing...learning the wrong things is not going to help anybody, so why pretend every thing is right?
