[sigh]  What Smile

http://fr-ca.actualites.yahoo.com/video/pet-pointers-dog-collars-vs-141500342.html

Most pet owners have very little control of their dogs on a flat collar. This is going to make it even worse!

So...she would actually defecate on herself if she saw an Electric collar I take it? Harnesses, gentle leaders, haltis, all gadgets that RE-strain a dog instead of training one, but, most of those places have no interest in training anyway.

I realize it is not empirical research, but interesting article on collars and what the different ones do to a dog's neck and spine.

Well, THAT'S certainly a surprise!  Omg Smile  Who would have thought?

So, I wonder how huskies manage to keep working sometimes into their double digits, if harnesses cause subluxations?  Roll eyes

HD, my thoughts EXACTLY! The solution to your dog pulling on whatever type of collar or harness it wears is to TRAIN IT NOT TO PULL!  Sad Smile  But of course, most people aren't able to do that...

Harness: "...Again, the primary cause to this is often attributed to frustrated owners yanking back on the leash, which causes the harness to put a large amount of stress on the shoulder and chest areas. "

The Huskies may not have problems, cause the handler normally doesn´t yank them back... It´s the pet dog owners only.

Huskies use an X back harness not a chest or shoulder designed harness. And huskies do a lot of yanking about. Ever seen them rearing to go? Jumping around and straining against the sled. Sledders use a huge hook as a break to keep the dogs from running off with the sled and no driver.
The real problem lise in the fact most people have become complete wussies and are now so afraid to "Correct" a dog that they let the dog do anything it wants until they dispose of it for being unmanagable.
The problem comes down to people and a complete lack of leadership on behalf od he humans. (We seem to be suffering the same problem with children.)
I hate seeing people walking a large dog on a harness it's an accident waiting to happen.

- And they are very trendy....over here animal rescues and shelters INSIST on the use of a harness for their rescue dogs - without harness no dog ( my neighbours adopted a Kangal - wearing a harness...). Luckily it´s a female, my male doesn´t care.

Don't get me started on harnesses on big dogs, especially those on retractable leashes when the owner is not physically capable of handling the dog if it decides to charge off.  I also watched a dog bite his own tongue hard when he ran after another dog and was on one of those "gentle leaders" that closes the mouth and controls the head.  Another pet peeve of mine is large aggressive dogs being kept in the yard by invisible fences.  All the dog has to do is decide the reward is worth more than the shock, I've seen the one down the street go through his fence twice and go after another dog, first time the owner was able to tackle him and the second time he ran into the side of a car of a quick thinking motorist.

Mindhunt i've seen beagles take the hit from a E-fence and run off joyously for hours. I know a family freind who got a beagle and tried using two collars to no avail, that stupid dog would just scream bloody murder as he went over the fence. Then he couldn't come back home because he's get zapped again. (Stupid beagle)
