What are the different catagories of Coated German Shepherds do you think there are....?

The only acceptable coated GSD is one with an undercoat and longer guard hair.

There is only one classification as the long coats without undercoat are disqualified.

one with an undercoat, and one without and then you have the normal stock coat, which of course isn't a long hair at all.

Other than what has beeen mentioned above, the long stock coated GSDs have coats of various lengths and fullness, ranging from wooly bears to having a slightly long coat, but still they are all long stock coats, providing the dog has an undercoat. A GSD is either a stock coat, a long stock coat or long haired (without an undercoat).. The term "plush" comes up every so often and everyone seems to have their definition of what that means, but it is a term that is used and not a classification. . Every so often there is a GSD with coat that falls in the gray area, such as a dog with what looks like a stock coat with feathers and tufts or a dog with a long coat, but no feathers or tufts.
