Wouldn't you know it?  If Cirberus' heat cycle is 6 months, she will come in heat again about 1/2 through our 1st agility class.

How do you handle group training while your bitch is in heat?  My 1st thought is to pull her from the class Sad Smile, but maybe some of the more experienced have "tricks of the trade" to keep going.

I was told that I could bring my dog to Schutzhund training while she is in heat, we would just either train her in a different area, or last. Also, when I went to the WDC this year she came with me, but stayed in the car, and I would drive her to a nearby park to take a break and let her run around every few hours.

However, I know some of the other types of classes get a bit persnickety with bitches in heat, and will just excuse her from those classes. I'd contact the trainer to see what they do, just to be sure.

Fawn,
I would personally ask the person teaching the class. Some will allow it if she goes last, some may not at all and some will allow it if she wears "fancy pants" while training there.

I've trained with my girl in heat. Up to a point. I don't take a flagging bitch into a group class. But the first 3 weeks is ok. I do put her "Hot pants" on to prevent any drips and help reduce the smell a bit. It also helps that most of the dog in most agility classes are altered pets.
I only had two males that were unaltered. Her "boyfriends" you could say.
I would ask the instructor what they suggest. And if she does go in heat maybe they will lit you pick up where you left off.
Never hurts to ask.
Good luck and have fun.

Depends on the trainer and the venue. Every training class I've ever attended banned in-season bitches from participating, OB, agility, rally, conformation and they are not allowed to participate at AKC trials. Protection trainers may not do that since in-season bitches are allowed to participate in trials.

I sent in a post but deleted it after i saw the date of the poster before, however as Blitzen has posted i put it back on
Gina still trains when she is in season at the twice weekly club training sessions, The Males have not been bothered to date plus other females also train when in season.
In a competition it is different Gina was in season when she took her BH and she was 17 days in season when she took her IPO 1 we had thoughts of pulling her out on that but went ahead? She did the A tracking at the same time but went on last but the tracks were well apart anyway she did very well on that phase. On the B Obedience she went last with a Dummy Dog Female; She was a little lack lustere on part of it and she looked a tad heavy. On C Protection she worked really well, not quite so fast as normal but good overall she did a good job, in two weeks time she takes the IPO 2 and she should be season clear for this one i am hoping

Hi Steve,

The bans on in-season bitches from OB training and trials here is to benefit the males who are participating in the same classes. Most bitches do OK when they are in season. Personally I like it that AKC bans in-season bitches from their trials since all dogs must do the same exercises in the same ring following  the same patterns at exactly the same spots in the ring.  An in-season bitch is a very  big distraction under those circumstances. Dogs are always judged in catalog order, there is no such thing as letting an in season bitch go last or segregating her from the rest of the class during the group long sits and downs.

I didn't notice the date this thread was started. Late to the party once again.
