Has anyone submitted their dogs for entry into the Dentition Database?
When I submitted Cisco's Hip and Elbow x-rays for evaluation last week I also, submitted the form for entry into the Dentition Data Base.
My vet didn't charge me anything to examine his mouth and the fee was only $15.00, so I thought what the heck.
I was a little disappointed that it did not ask for a scissor bite evaluation.......but at least now it will be on record that he has full adult dentition.

What are your thoughts?.........Waste of money... or... potential research resource?

probably not a waste of money, but I doubt we will see many dogs entered that don't have full mouths. really don't understand why the bite is not a part of it though, that's pretty important.

Really a good idea if you are going to show your dog;  my friend's almost champion show bitch broke off her canine molar;  my friend is not sure how it happened and in the past if something like that happens and the judge see's it on bite exam they can dump you.  However, my friend got a letter from her vet stating that the tooth was broken off and that the bitch did have a full bite with all her teeth.  So again not a bad idea to have a record of the bite.  Bye for now  Nan

I think it is a great idea. I submitted Koals this week. Just waiting for the certificate. I was surprised as well that they did not ask for a scissor bite. Although that is the first thing my vet checked, and then commented that they didnt ask for it.
Since I am doing IPO with Koal I am glad that I got this done. Just in case he breaks a tooth, or even worse knocks one out.

I think it is a pretty good thing to have, I am working my dog in protection and he has a chipped tooth, it's just a small tooth in the
front, when I noticed it I had the vet check his teeth and fill the form out to send to ofa before the tooth disappears completely.

I'm pretty sure that the United Schutzhund Club will accept the ofa Dentintion certificate.

To be honest I didn't know it existed.  I do the dentition exams at SV shows so they do examine and note the scissor bite, as well as the breed survey later on.  It's nice to have OFA stuff online but it adds up having to double up on all these exams and paperwork.  I'll probably not do it.  If anyone wonders about my dogs' bites (for stud service or whatever) I have PDF copies of all of their paper work, titles, scorebooks, and health records that I can share.
