It has been more than a decade since I've had an entry in a conformation show and have never been in a Sieger Show.  I will have an entry in the young dog class 18-24 months.  She is a working line dog and I'm not looking to win.  I just want to show her at her best, do what I'm supposed to do, and not annoy the judge by making mistakes that more experienced show handlers would never make.  Any assistance will be much appreciated.

Hi, Gunther,

If you are able, it would be well worth hitting some smaller shows first to gain some of that experience, etiquette, and knowledge.

Showing up at a National event unprepared very well could "annoy" the judge and be looked upon as disrespectful toward something he has great passion toward.

BTW, I have received some of that "annoyance" and rightfully so.  It is no different than showing up for a BH or IPO title not knowing the rules and obviously not respectful enough of the event to prepare.

Best,

I think the analogy is halting.  There is a rule book for BH and IPO.  I haven't found a printed set of rules for handlers in a conformation show.  If such a thing exists, please point me to it.

Such a thing does not exist to my knowledge.  Some video is available that may be helpful.  Those done by Ricardo Carbajal (sp?) come to mind.

Best of luck to you,

Kevin

LMAO!  Yep, me too!  The whole thing is borderline ridiculous so just go out and have fun with your dog.

When I prepped my workingline male for reg. conf. show/koer my club members ran around the training field w/me to accustom my dog to being in the ring w/other dogs, as well as checking teeth/testicles.  I thought this very important.  I also went to another club a few times    learn/practice.  We really needed more training to show better, but it was enough to get the job done at the regional level. Perhaps unconventional, but I found using biking time helpful to teach him to trot/pull on cue - he pulled me on the bike anyway...my riding time was braking to keep the pace, not pedaling LOL

I haven't yet made it through all the information offered, but "thank you" to everyone for the advice, information, and encouragement.  Much appreciated!
