Live streaming is, perhaps, a double-edged sword.  If people can spectate from home,  some may feel why travel to the show.   For others spectating involves the entire experience of " being there."  Also, there are so many events packed into the mid-April to late-May period that people really often must pick and choose.

For me I would have loved to have been there.  But work just has been a heavy load this summer.  There just is no way I could have gone.  For me on my tv the picture was a bit blurry but sound was good.  So really being able to see what I could I was very greatful for.  If it wasn't for the live streaming video I would have had nothing.

I simply loved it, no chance to "fly over there" for a weekend.
Whoever made this possible, THANK YOU from Germany!

I think the facility is great, beautiful. However, even though it is in the mid-point of the country, it is not convenient to travel to. Limited direct flights, etc. Maybe have it in another Midwest town that is easier to access.

The site was great but the field being down in that hole was really a burden on us senior citizens. The show field was probably 50-60 feet below the parking lot in elevation. For me, given some significant back problems, this was more than just a bit of a burden.  Going down that  precipice to the field in the morning was not a problem but climbing out of that hole after the events each afternoon was a real challenge for us senior citizens..

Hopefully, site selection in the future will take in access into consideration.

you are correct about the "hole". after one trip up it, I walked to the far end where not quite so steep. Hard to believe a company like purina hasn't installed steps to get up and down.

Nino even more impressive than I expected. Gorgeous dog with many good traits. Even after the gaiting in direct sunlight, he slipped his collar, ran to his owner and started playing ball. I also noted that Dr. Goldfarb, rather than having to chase after him,  simply called him into heel position which Nino immediately assumed, so congrats to Goldfarb for good training. Nino also one of the better dogs as far as standing straight from rear as well as a long correct croup.

Chacco also a very impressive dog, closer to medium size and very athletic looking dog. The judge noted his ability in Germany to produce very clear headed and willing to work progeny, not exact wording and maybe someone else can better quote his description. It was a long trip and my memory maybe a little foggy.

Pato, who started in #3 position,, simply would not quit and eventually moved ahead of Chacco in the end. Pato also a very nice dog who could have probably been VA1 on another day, but it would have been diffulcult for any dog to go ahead of Nino.

just a view from the cheap seats, so take it for what it's worth.

I made the trip specificaly to get a first hand look at Nino and Chacco and regretably now ended up concentrated on the first 3 dogs and did not pay as much attention to the rest of the field.

In the females I was very careful to note backs (I'm in hate the roach crowd). I was very pleasently suprised to note the number who moved with very good toplines, some maybe a very slight arch, but not distracting at all  when coupled with correct wither. A Paul daughter, I think from Oher Tannen (sp) a perfectly straight back in all phases of gaiting so it is possible to get. At least from the people who are doing and not just complaining.

The VA1 female very nice and a machine in gait, never let up. Also some nice dogs from Mittelwest.

Also interesting to note that many of the dogs showing very good toplines in gait would get bunched up when stacked for pics, so I don't think that forming an opinion without seeing the dog first hand gives a very accurate opinion of "roach".

On the down side, the percentage of dogs standing with hocks turned in (from slight to touching) was very high, although most moved straight, it just does not seem to be a priority to correct.

Thanks for the "view from the cheap seats", Richard and ILMD Thumbs Up.  A friend went for the Sunday judging; she had similar comments about the dogs. She really liked the Va1 female; we saw her as a puppy and could see she was  going to be something special. I haven't seen Nino, I hope to.

Purina Farms is a very popular site for AKC shows too. I wonder why they don't remedy their "hole issue".

Blitzen:

You are right about the hole needing resolution and the AKC Shows.  In fact, I believe the GSDCA National Event is being held there this fall.  The climb out of the hole is difficult for the physically fit and a real challenge for us old F#@TS.  The GSDCA National is not being held in the hole. I have been assured it is to be inside the Event Arena atop "Mount Purina".

You are also right about the VA-1 female.  She was spectacular in both Stand and Motion.
