I predict before Obama leaves office and after the election he will sign an executive order banning assault weapons especially if Hillary wins. Before it was meds, then violent video games and now it is Jihadists, except it isn't because most of these people are American born citizens. Some people just go crazy whether their fixation is religion, gays, abortion, Vietnam or whatever. They just go crazy. And unfortunately we have given them an easy way to obtain weapons that kill many quickly. I actually know someone who knows someone who lost a brother in this attack. The next mass shooting will have nothing to do with Jihadists and will probably happen cause someone went crazy.

@GSD   The "real" definition of racist is not defined by Ryan. How you are using the word and half the country is now using the word to claim a moral high ground, is prejudice. Racism is about superiority of one race over another. Prejudice, can be based on racism or any number of bigotted views, and chauvinism on a prejudice for gender, but in all cases, a blanket labeling of "racism" is not accurately being used these days. I can't be bothered with Trump these days. I probably won't even be voting, I am that disgusted with everything about politics, lately.

 

Any way, I don't think this shooter was terribly bright, or disciplined in his world views. His mixing of terrorist groups and past shooters of note are proving inconsistent with a set ideology. We can only be sure— that he wanted to hate and act on that hate. I agree with your statement:

I welcome a return of the ban on assault weapons. And other strict gun control laws. It can't happen fast enough for me. Maybe, too, if the gun manufacturers get sued by the families of the 49 dead and 53 wounded, in addition to the Sandy Hook families, they will no longer find it profits from sales to the general public and do the right thing: stop marketing and selling military grade weapons to the general public.
