Its also age discriminatory, if you think about it. These days it is quite
common for dog people in their 20s & 30s to have a variety of college
and organisational course qualifications, and paid careers centered on
canines, or pets generally. People in Steve's and my age group came
along in a different world, when those things were rarely available.
I just hate it when anyone sets up a Survey which really only amounts
to a Petition towards a pre-determined result ! And then try to say "oh,
everybody can have a view recorded". Especially when they design
the bloody questionnaire so it subtly discourages participants who may
not agree with what they are trying to do !
OK, rant over.

I have little faith that any survey created by an org that clearly disparages the use of an ecollar already has any intentions other than to create more bad press for such a device. I think they have their goal in mind and set up a plan to get to their goal. I don't think opening the survey to everybody was on the side of fairness or openess, but instead to help reach their endgoal, which is eliminate the option to use an ecollar in this country. They know most dog trainers or people that do train dogs do NOT have a certification. By opening it up, they can say see, our trainers and those with cert's that are "educated" don't use them. Those with no training are most likely to use, therefore most likely to use incorrectly. at least that's the spin I see coming out of this. there are a few others, but I really don't see the point.
I'll fight for the option to use an ecollar, though I haven't used one in a long time on any of my dogs. I certainly could have, but mine died a long time ago and I haven't had the urge to buy a new one. So i've adapted. I'm sure i'll be in situations in the future where i might want to use one again. I'd like to think it will still be an option.

These types of surveys are always dubious because they aren't very scientific in selecting who is going to get surveyed. I think that the demo information that they are looking for helps them with modeling techniques that attempts to make the survey results more reflective of the population. If the population they are trying to survey has 10% college graduates, then by asking about education helps them weigh the data correctly. But that assumes they want accurate survey results.
For what its worth, I live in a very liberal part of the US have a graduate degree, am not a certified trainer but use an ecollar. The trainers I use all have college degrees, some have graduate degrees, some went to college to learn training, and they all use ecollars. They also use clickers. They train dogs that are pets and working dogs. They work with people who want lap dogs, want to compete in AKC Rally-O events, Schutzhund, Ring, and work with Police canine units. Among the trainers, they have 9 malis, 3 GSDs, 4 pits, and assorted other dogs. The point is, given where I live and education background, one would assume I'm anti-ecollar and anti-pinch. But I never leave home without the pinch. Granted, whenever I go to run thru at another facility I put a banana around my dog's neck - no sense rubbing it in other peoples faces. And most of the people I encounter at the run thrus simply ignore that my dog has a pinch collar. But I won't go to a run thru with an ecollar. No since pushing it.

I for one do not use an E Collar, I did have one but i gave it away. If i cannot get an animal to work along with me naturally then so be it,
I use a Pinch Collar and an ordinary chain collar. I do not knock those who use a E collar providing they know what they are doing with it. but i believe in the old fashioned ways. Patience and kindness but with a bit of firmness.
Hundmutter put it in the right context, Times were far removed to the present day when we were born No TV and lucky if you had a wireless, in fact we did have a wireless and it worked off of Batteries which were about a 9 inches tall with acid in them if my mind serves me correctly and they had to be charged up at the local garage,
