If it weren't for Morton Goldfarb there would be no International Show System in this country. Others may fraudulently take credit but their efforts to do so are purely poppy-cock. Years ago, when a very, very few of us where trying to actually promote and advance the International Standard, Morton Goldfarb stepped up to the plate. At that time, he and Jack Ogren were the only two fully accredited SV Judges in this country. My friend,  Fred Lanting was another devoted SV Breed Judge pioneer but he chose to be satisfied with an SV Foreign Judges license. Morton courageously stepped up and spoke to the United Schutzhund Clubs of America's National Meeting in Alabama back in the 80's after an invitation from two of the most devoted GSD people in this country,  Larry and Anna Parker. Morton asked for the true lovers of the breed to step forward and take responsibility for the breed in this country..  At that time, our little club in Bowling Green, Kentucky took the bait, hook, line and sinker. We decided to go for the gold.  With the help of Jerry Slavens, then President of USChHCA, and the leadership of Dr. Goldfarb and his connections with the SV in Germany, and inspite of tremendous resistance from the " the numb-nutted 'In Crowd' "  of The United Schutzhund Clubs of America, and the even equally narcissistic leaders of The German Shepherd Dog Club of America,  we were able to bring about and pull off the first truly  "SV Sanctioned" Breed Show to the United States.

The rest is history.

Morton Goldfarb is an absolute gentleman among gentleman. He has fought opposition from every breed and supposed breed organization in this country. He has never faultered. The breed always came first and politics were never important.  It is time he got credit and respect for his efforts. This year,  he is showing the finest animal our breed can possibly present. I, my wife of 50 years and my son will be venturing to  St. Louis to support and help promote him and his stallion, Nino vom Tronje. I hope you come to celebrate this great event with us. Without Morton, this sport and our beloved breed would have likely never experienced a Sieger Show or even an honest and credible Breed Show.

Last time I saw Mr. Goldfarb was in the Atlanta show March 8th. And he violated rules set up by him and GSDCA board: he brought Nino Von Tronje next to the ring even though he wasn't competing and the judge also stop the competition so Mr. Goldfarb could address everyone and talk about Nino and how good he is ,etc. From many breeders, even Germans , all say Nino production is substandard, too many oversize dogs, bad long-soft pasterns, and soft ears , so please, don't talk like Mr. Goldfarb doesn't know this. Any dog can produce faults, but Nino produces a lot, in my opinion. There are other dogs here that produce better in general. In the 2013 BSZS Nino was going to be downgraded and that's why he EZ Nino , but he tells people is because there was not going to be a grade. All of these are facts.

the Sieger show is a combination of many people and factors, not one person.

I think it's OK if you bring the #2 dog in the world ringside even if they are not entered. Not every day you have that happen.

Ober:

Thanks for sharing your opinion.  Is it possible that the reason Nino was VA not once, not twice but 3 Times is because as you say he had a propensity to produce so many faulty offspring?

by ILMD on 14 May 2014 - 12:05

It is neither unusual or illegal for a club to invite a dog not entered into the ring for award or demostration. Happens at GSDCA for hero dog. I have seen clubs do demonstrations of other activivities like frisbee, agility etc. If the dog is there by invitation of club it is breaking no rules.

by SitasMom on 14 May 2014 - 13:05

I believe the rules are that if your dog isn't entered isn't supposed to be on the event grounds, is this correct?

  Remember that broken clock?Regular Smile

I must say, surprised as I am, I agree with Kim.    The entry forms, flyers, etc for each and every show I have ever seen  states clearly that dogs not entered in the show are not to be on the show field/grounds.  This is NOT about exhibititions and demonstrations, which are invited, planned adjuncts to a show.  But, dogs not entered being near the ring has usually been verboten, otherwise.

Ober, I have no clue who you are, so I don't know whether you have a refreshing candor...or, a bone to pick.  However, as you have just flung these opinions out there, I will happily discuss them with Mr. Goldfarb next month, when he comes to  my area to judge a specialty.

I don´t know what´s "common" in the US, but over here most of the time dogs are allowed on the show grounds, as long as they are current on shots.
It´s nice training, why not?

by waleed786 on 16 May 2014 - 21:05

@ susie you must remember the americans do things differently, ....there are certain sports comps they call " world series" , or "world champs" then it's only american teams taking part. Here by us in south africa you dog is allowed on the field

British Kennel Clubs  (am including Scottish and Welsh KCs alongside The K C)

are a bit ambivalent about this one.  Traditionally all dogs other than those entered

or appearing in demos were kept out;  but this was more often observed at the big

all-breeds Championship Shows,  other sorts of show the schedules said that, but

it was sometimes ignored.  Esp. at GSD Breed Club Shows, held under KC Rules.

Since then we have had the rise of the independent Regional Shows  for GSDs

following the SV system - I'm not sure what the policy is at those.  We have also had

some general shows officially allowing the public / spectators (never sure if this includes

exhibitors other dogs ! )  to bring dogs into the Show Ground, though often they have to

be parked & paid for in the Not For Exhibition  creche tent.

A lot of exhibitors feel as Susie says, its good for training and socialising older dogs,

and good exposure & practise for pups when they are 4 or 5 months old.  Not so much

for any real tinies.
