Actually Blitzen Conformation allows in season bitches in AKC. If you can't control your male then that's your problem, he needs more training. But in Obedience and agility sports the females in heat are banned.
If they banned females in heat for show no one would ever get a bitch finished, because nothing sends a girl into season faster then a cashed conformation check!
At my club (Obedience, Agility, Rally and Conformation) we allow females in season with pants on. Just to keep from leaking any smelly stuff onto out new matting.
But really it's up to the trainer.

Actually, I do know that, Fry, I've been showing at AKC shows since 1970.. I said in-season bitches are banned from most conformation training classes, not from shows. Trials refer to OB events where they are banned..

In Schutzhund it does not seem to be a problem, sometimes the females will just go last depending on where they are in their cycle.

In agility, flyball, and other sports I do, it seems to be a no-no, but I don't mind (I have an intact male, he can learn to deal).  I'm not sure why the other sport folks don't like it, but that's been my observation of the general attitude.  In flyball people are more strict because the dogs are basically running loose.

In dock diving they are prohibited.

In conformation it doesn't matter.  Generally if a female is in heat the handler might tell you if you are going in with a male, as a courtesy.  I've shown my intact breeding male behind (literally) a female in standing heat.  No biggy, we have training and control.

Blitzen
I can understand that in group training, but i am refering to IPO work where only two dogs are on the work field together one on a long down the other one working.  The Females which are in season no matter what stage it is up to the handler to tell this when checking in. Normally there is only the one dog and a dummy dog is used as a Partner the dummy dog does the whole routine but gets no points or score. In one Competition Gina was dummy dog for one other dog doing the BH, routine then  went on to do the Obedience phase of IPO 1 for another dog and then again to do the Obedience phase for a dog doing IPO 2; so she worked three times; She did the down three times so i thought we should not have a problem in the future and she did the block work twice, so did a nice bit of work that day. The Dummy Dog would always be a Female for a Bitch in Season

Sure, there's a big difference, Steve, that's why the rules need to be different. I can imagine the group 3 minute long downs and the 5 minute out of sight downs if there were in-season bitches in the ring. It would probably result in some very interesting designer dogs Teeth Smile. When my dog trialed for her BH she was attacked by the dummy/honor dog, a male and she wasn't in season.

SchH is way easier than other sports when training or competing with a bitch in heat.  You have a huge space all to yourself, just one other dog on a long down quite far away.  In other sports there are dozens of dogs in very close proximity, sometimes off leash depending on the nature of the sport.  Whether bitches in heat are allowed or not, most of their owners won't take the chance.

No problem Blitzen.  All comments are welcome.   This actually became a mute point for Cirberus, as I had her spayed at the same time she had her Hips and Elbows x-rayed.

We start tonight.   My shoulder is doing better, so we should be good to go.

I had mine spayed too and I'm glad I did Teeth Smile Enjoy the agility training. I haven't tried much of that yet.
