LaGesse

I have been around and trained with both breeds but neither for very long. And I know the obvious differences but if anyone has owned them both any would tell me any other differences in them. I would really like to know.

As I am debating which one to get as my next breed.

(Doberman: I had a male Black and Tan from 6 weeks to 9 months he then got a spinal problem and I had to put him down)

(Belgian: my father has a retired police dog I've spent a little time with)

That literally makes no sense? I don't understand your two word sentence. Especially because that has nothing to so with what I asked for.  I've researched both breeds and they both fit into my lifestyle. I wanted more of a Pro/Con list than a No

Sure it makes sense, NO Malinois means pick something else. 2 weeks a go, you were debating dogs too, this time you added the Doberman, what about NO malinois makes no sense to you?

Both both breeds are nice depends on individual lines and what you are looking for.

Thank you vk4gsd for being usefull.

I would really like to talk to someone with first hand experience with both breeds from birth through training. And old age.

I don't think you are going to find anyone one here who have had both.  I have had many Dobermans from many different lines for close to 40 years.  And as a matter of pros or cons some of that is really view point and personal opinion.  Their drives are completely different.  You train a Doberman like its a shepherd and you will ruin a good dog.  Total different personalities.  My knowledge of malinois is non existent.

Thank you.

My Doberman was a genius. But he was much different than my German I have now. Surprisingly he needed such a soft hand and gentle voice when training him if you had met him you wouldn't have been able to even conceive the idea that Doberman are mean.

well they aren't mean, and the only ones that I ever saw that were just aggressive were either the result of just a few things and usually easy to identify. 1. Poor breeding. (mating too closely can result in aggressive Dobermans.) 2. Someone who just wants a mean dog.  ( a very intelligent dog is so easy to train that an idiot can train them.  thus idiots can make them mean.) 3. An abused dog (How many times do I hit you before you either run away from me or cut loose on me?  why would an intelligent dog be any different?)

They don't need a soft hand they just can't be treated harsh.  there is a big difference.  But it is a hard one for some to understand who comes from the way that most train the shepherds.
