Hi all,
I was just looking through when I saw this tread. Will read other comments later.
no offence meant.

Hi Jenni78,
Once again this critique is from a photo, If the pup comes from working lines,
forget about this critique after you have read it .the pup will grow up  according to it's genetic potential.

So here goes :
A 8 week old black and tan, male puppy, with good bone,
very good pigment, and good proportions. very nice type.
In shows a  good strong head with a good muzzle and expression.
He stands with high withers ,a level back with a nice lay of croup.
Very good front angulations with a good upper arm.
Very good hind angulations.
Nice depth of chest. The pup stands strait in front.

This is a very promising pup. if he was mine I would expose him to different situations,
meet other dog,and start developing his mental strength now.( the window is from 8-16 Wks.)

I don't know the critique lingo, but I like him.
Nice solid looking pup. I also favor the straight back.
I would have him.

first photo.
short croup, straight shoulder, weak pasterns, high wither.
from the sitting photo.......lots of substance.

all could change or all could stay the same.......puppies are a gamble.

Well this looks to be a very ugly pup maybe You should give him to me!!!!! He looks ok, lots will change. How does he work?? Sitas I do not see weak pasterns?

How does he work? Well, I can't get him to wash any of the clothes he drags around the house, or clean the floors after he leaves muddy paw prints all over them, and all he really wants to do is play and then sleep. If he's not sleeping, he's tormenting my other dogs. I've never seen him work. Clearly, he's lazy. Shades Smile

This is pretty much what he does all day:

I don't see terribly weak pasterns in person as much as I see a pretty big boned pup who is in that clumsy stage. His sire is HUGE boned and his dam is a substantial girl at 80lbs, so I anticipate it'll take him a while to "tighten up" as it has his relatives.

Thanks for the input, and 1020ma, if he doesn't straighten up, I'll send him your way;-).

In all seriousness, he's a good boy. He and his brother are far less annoying than my litters and though he is plenty drivey if someone wanted to do sport with him, he's not bouncing off the walls 24/7 and he's quiet, which is awesome. He only barks when he has to go potty or is trying to get another dog to play with him. Loves loves loves to tug; he plays on a makeshift "springpole" we have in the yard (really a long dog toy rope hanging from a spring on a branch), and has a lot of tenacity. He's very sound environmentally and is a great and enthusiastic climber and explorer. No surface issues, no noise issues, very bold and outgoing without being totally obnoxious. My son says "I want to keep this puppy. He doesn't bite me all the time." LOL LOL

Grandma, play with me, dammit! Also, this shows his movement and structure a bit better. I do agree his pasterns could be stronger but I also agree with Xeph that it seems to be a fairly typical stage.

Oh gosh, that is the cutest video. The puppy run makes me melt. Can I ask what his pedigree is like?

I pm'd you the pedigree minro. It's an outcross; these pups are out of a dog I bred, though. They're Caleb & Capri grandpuppies, which is why I was dying of curiosity and had to try a few out myself. Both parents are working farm dogs (herding, guardian), so knowing what the dam was intrigued me as to how different these pups would be from my "normal" pups.

Isn't the puppy bow and run impossible to resist? Heart
