He is about to turn 6 months here very soon. I got hte alpah male of the liter. Everything else he just runs into like a huge group of dogs at the dog park. He will splash in the kiddie pool I got him but as far as get in deep and swim he does not like it. Only done it a couple times and when I carry him out hiw swims straight to the shore. Is this normal/life long fear?/ something that takes time. I know every dog is different, just curious if anyone else has had any problem. He is about 55lbs and runs all day, lol

I hate it when people don't like to swim. If I go to a beach and see someone that hasn't gone in, I drag them to the deep and make them. Made the mistake a couple of times, the people had never been swimming before. They Bitched and I laughed. I thought, I'll show them that they'll like it. I threw them in multiple times. Oddly enough, they never liked it. Hmmm. Malinois + ball + lake. In shallow, throw ball. Next time throw ball deeper. Next time deeper. Or just fricken go swimming. I usually think cat people are stupid, but they may have one over dog people on this issue.

my boxer was the same way, i got him a life vest and calmly as possible brought him out to where he couldnt touch, took a few times but once he realized he didnt have to panic cause he floated he did very well, after a few sessions he swims like a champ without the life vest.

mine had to gradually discover the creek at her own pace- wading at first, and gradually going deeper. now she'll keep pace with the best Lab.
