My Mal pup is right at 20 weeks old now. At between 12 and 17 weeks she had some frustrating intestinal issues that puzzled the vets, but have now gone away. Because of those issues the vet prescribed Hills ID canned food for awhile, but she wasn't gaining weight at the expected rate and actually lost a few pounds during the worst of it. As of tonight, she weighs just over 40 lbs., and I am wondering if that is acceptable for her age. I know that it might be hard to gauge without pictures, but I am just looking for a range. I am feeding her 4 3/4 cups of Royal Canin Large Breed Maxi 32 split into two meals daily, and she definitely acts likes she wants more food. Which brings me to my other question... Where does RC stand in the hierarchy of quality dog foods?  It was recommended to me by the behaviorist / trainer that I am using. He also mentioned Nutro, but they have so many types I wasn't sure which was best. RC has breed specific formualtions that may just be for marketing, I don't know.

Thanks for you help.

At 5 months and 40 pounds sounds just right...My female is 17 wks and 35lbs...Alot of people feed RC and have no issues with it I used to feed it as well.

Thanks for your response. Everything I have read says that she would be at about half of her adult weight at 6 months, which had me thinking that she would be pretty large for a female Mal. That would actually make her larger than her father and that didn't seem to make sense. She's very lean, so I am not woried, I was just curious of others experiences.
