When I look at him I see Mal in him, but then again, I thought I should turn to the experts :) Do any of you see Malinois?
We were told he was about a year, but mentally, I think he's no more than 8 months old - he's about 24.9kgs and very slight.
Any thoughts?

It's really not possible to say. Side photos showing his structure/angulation would help, but with mixes sometimes you are just taking an educated guess. Why did the people you got him from say GSD mix? Do they know who at least one of his parents are? Based on the photos I would tend to think GSD mix though.

Cityratt,
Your dog looks like a German Shepherd or something.
The picture down below is what a Malinois should look like.
Malindobie going to think I am trying to make points with her, and I am.
This is her dog which is a very good example of what a Malinois should look like.

Cityratt,
I did not mean to kill your thread, if I look at your
dog, I see a short haired German shepherd. Some times
it not just the looks, but the behavior you see. These are two
different breeds of dogs with very different characteristics. The
Malinois is nothing like a German Shepherd.
Also I am not saying you don't have a good dog, you just don't have
a Malinois.
Germank9lover, are you saying both dogs look German Shepherd mix or just Cityratts?

oh no, I didn't think you killed the thread - I just wandered away for a while :) and have been adjusting to live with Blue.
I'm not really concerned with what he really is when push comes to shove (I'm just driving myself crazy thinking about what the heck he is) - I picked him for him (as I think you have to do when you go to a local shelter and not a breed specific rescue) I have no information on his background whatsoever unfortunately - Im only left to guess.
I guess I just thought maybe he'd have Mal in him because he is alot more narrow than the majority of GSDs I've encountered - and also in the curl of his tail - I know. not alot to go on - realistically he may just be a poorly bred shepherd or crossed with some sort of sighthound.
What are the characteristic Mal personality quirks?
Here's a more recent picture of the goofball - I know he's not stacked and it isn't a perfect sideview of him but it's the best that I've got - he does have the characteristic (or what I consider more characteristic....) Black along the back of the GSD - its not so much his colouring or appearance that makes me think Mal - its his structure, he just seems so narrow to me.... but then again - I have neither bred nor owned either so really I know nothing (and defer to those that have and know the breed better than I)
Maybe a Mal GSD cross?

"Cityratt,

Wolfinbok I re-read this and actually laughed out loud :)
I dont pretend that he is anything pure and well bred - like I said he came from a shelter - personally I think he may be part kangaroo most of the time...
he sure is something.... lol
