Is this dog still alive?

by Jeckl8 on 01 October 2005 - 17:10
He died a few years ago, he had a tourned stomach.

But he produced some very hard and nice females too!

Did any of his offspring bloat/torsion? What good is it if he produced hard and nice offspring if they end up dying of this also? AND it ends up in other bloodlines? I don't think this helps the breed.

GASTRIC TORSION is not genetic
by Louise M. Penery on 09 November 2005 - 17:11
While gastric torsion may not be PROVEN to be genetic,
there appears to be a definite predisposed genetic component. This is my opinion based on my "anecdotal" observations in the breed since 1964 and from my experience working in various veterinary medical settings. I have seen it occur in multiple generations of the same families.
