I have seen a lot of malinois dog that are very sound sensitive, like fear of thunder storm, firecracker, gun shot and other loud noise, Is this normal for the breed, or depends on line and genetics?

Good working mali's dont have those problems, unless they were traumatised by close gunfire,or were to young to be exposed to loud noises.Gunfire and loud noises are apart of police k9 work,KNPV,NVBK,Mondio ring,PSA and so on.

If there is anything else to ask contact k9unit5@yahoo.com my partner and I would like to help you if you need it.

Sound sensitivity is not wanted in the breed, but as you already have noticed some of them are sound sensitive. The malinois is one of the varieties of the Belgian Shepherd and you see it more often in the Groenendaeler and the Tervueren. Yes, it depends on line and genetics. Breeders of working mali try to select dogs who are not sound sensitive, but a good sozialisation is also important.
