As most Malinois handlers know that Mali's are known for there had grips in protection work, but what if you dog is not measuring up.First does the dog not bite hard for a lack of training,or a bad decoy who does not know what he is doing,or in frequent training days.A good working Mali is genetics enhanced with training, remeber your decoy has to work all the dogs drives correctly, for example of drives hunt, and fight drive now some trainers say it's prey and defense drives, then there is avoidance issues that could come up as well.

If your dog just stays on the bite and does not shake and fight the decoy your dog could be flat and things could be changed to use the drives of the dog to there higest potential.

A good training program should be at least 3-4 days a week of obedience, and protection work and both should work together and if you are titling your dog in sport then the days could be 4-5 if you want to do well. The bite work can be done in sessions first one is going to be 3-5 bites to warm up the dog and relive stress and reduce hectic behaviors.second is bitebuilding creating an even harder grip and enhancing the dogs hunt drive and  fight drive.Third is creating endurance in the dogs bites example you send the dog at 100yrd long bite then you walk up the dog as he stays on the grip.

Nomatter how you train keep in mind the drives of the dog and what is best for him or her if you train with people who have hard Dutch Mali's and yours is more for sport there training might not work for you and your dog.If you would like to see more examples of refined bite work programs feel free to contact me . k9unit5@yahoo.com
