One of my pregnant females has started eating her feaces. This is not her first ltter and she is about 7 weeks into her pregnancy. Anyone else ever experienced this? What triggers this reaction?

The very first thing to assess is if your female is getting enough nutrients in her food. What are you feeding, how much and are you giving her any supplements? This is not uncommon, especially because she will clean up after the pups once they arrive. But it could signal a problem if it is a new behavior. The best thing to do is immediately clean up after her, and check her nutrition to make sure it is enough. Her behavior may signal a deficiency.

I'm well, thank you...yourself? I haven't seen any kennel updates in my email box for quite a while...did I get dropped from the list?

Some dogs just have a passion for poop. I believe it is not "nutrition related" but just a nasty little habit. I have one female who I have to constantly watch like a hawk- she will search for piles immediately after eating. With 8 dogs to clean up after- I am constantly trying to try to keep up with the cleanup before this female has a chance to "indulge herself"!! yuck! Another learned behavior is pups eating poop. I have 12 pups on the ground now who have been weaned for 3 weeks. All they do is eat, poop and sleep (and fight with each other)- and they will make a beeline for poop as soon as it is dropped (which is constantly!). I really have to move fast to keep ahead of these little guys. I know that this is not a nutritional deficit- but a neat little trick they picked up from mom! Another YUCK!
