Good morning,

From research I have read that bitches are ready to breed when the stop bleeding and they stand for a male. Is it possible for a female to stand before she is ready to be bred? The reason I ask is because my female is in heat now I totally missed her first day of spotting but she is swollen. Sunday and Monday she stood for a male and there was no blood but she wouldn't tie with a male. But yesterday and today she started spotting. The blood is still fairly dark but it is a little lighter today than yesterday.

What are your thoughts? Do you think I missed her or is she just now becoming ready?

An experienced male will also know when she is ready....

But yes, some females will flag before they are actually ready, or even after the proper timing has passed.

I had a little dog that when she was in heat, she would to it to every dog she could find for 2 weeks, she seemed to really enjoy it. Her favorite was a neutered black lab. Keeping her caged was impossible, she had one litter of really mixed up pups, and we spay her.

After your dogs have been tested for breeding. like the schutzhund test ,Hips and elbows,  reason for breeding. Pet work etc. Hope that helps. Two years is a fair time frame. Good luck doctor.

This is what I figure. Start rubbing the base of the bitches tail from the day she starts bleeding, the day she flags she can be bred as the correct dates vary from bitch to bitch, season to season. best to find out early than too late.
