I don't know if anyone else has seen this; it was posted on our GSD Federation (SA) website. Hope the link works...

This is going to sound cruel, but....my fiancee is a reservist. I would rather it be a dog than him if he got called up. Better a dog than someone's child, or parent, or spouse.  I find it hard to believe they cannot send in something robotic, but the sad truth is service animals die every day. K9s, SAR dog, bombs dogs...they get killed. How about we stop the war itself, a more contructive way to keep the dogs and the soldiers safe.

Although I do agree its not the ideal method, i agree with KCzaja. Human life always comes first. Besides seeing things from the law enforcement side of view, it not any better to send dogs chasing after armed criminals and into methlabs either. Sometimes there is no good answer... I did sign the petition by the way..

Vanessa, I agree that it's pretty shitty but the son of a friend of mine lost both his legs at 24 years of age in Iraq... Taliban! If I sign your petition, I may be risking the legs / life of another young man, so I will not sign.

its a pitty any life should be taken in such circumstances but I would rather lose a dog than a human life any day

to the OP, think on this say your son, father, brother or husband was serving his country, and there was a choice............ them or a dog who would you choose?

It is sad that there are so many Jihadi thugs abroad and drug fueled thugs at home.

Unfortunately, human nature is what it is, for so many reasons.

That is one of the big  reasons that our German Shepherds, are who they are,   They are working dogs.

They are warriors, soldiers, paratroopers, border patrol, search and rescue and law enforcement officers.

I cry when we lose a police officer or soldier, be it human or canine

Yet these warrior/police dogs adapt to domestic bliss in pet homes and be gentle guide dogs and therapy dogs.

Didn't some famous dude mention that we should first let them be working dogs?

Having 2 brothers serving over there, I agree that a human's life is more important. If this bothers people, then maybe those people should come up with some sort of memorial for these dogs. Not to be rude, but it is going to happen regardless of what we do. Time rather spent collecting ideas for a memorial would be better.

Could always send prisoners over there. They stay alive for 45 days and get a reduced sentence.............lol.

Kind regards,

John Kennedy
