Each hip is given a score, based on the level of dysplasia found. Scores can range from the lowest of 0 for each hip to the highest of 53 per hip. The lower the better. For instance a hip score of 0-0 would be perfect to the worst of 53-53. I believe that the breed average(for what it is worth, as obviously not all plates are submitted) is approximately 18, most breeders try to keep below this for their breeding stock.

Thank You.... So a dog with numbers between ten and twelve is good i would think? :) With the purpose off breeding. *smile*

Hmmmm.. Do they get the score from left and right hip on them selves? Or from parents? Is it better to have an even result on both sides, like 3+3=6? 5+5=10 Or is 2+4 and 3+7 just as good? Hope you get my point, spellings not good.. hehe My English is a bit rusty.

Hi Jessie yes a hip score between 10-12(total of both hips) is quite acceptable, the more even the better. Any of the combinations you have quoted above are quite acceptable. The score comes from the dog itself, we do not have any ZW type system here, where the parents cores contribute the the off springs scores.
