There has got to be more to this than what was written about on the site.  I am proud of the MWD that serve with such distinction in the armed forces.  I know that many will die as a result, to be mourned and honored by their fellow soldiers, just as our husbands, sons and brothers are.  The MWDs are serving, working and saving lives, what more could we ask for and from them?

Sad to say that I too, would rather lose a dog than a human military member, but in reality, I know that we will continue to lose both while this long, strange war goes on.

SitasMom...GSDs werent designed to be 'War dogs'

That would be ancient Molossus breeds used in the Greek/Roman-Neopolitan Mastiffs, Cane Corso and the Like

GSDs were bred to be WORKING Animals, to assist Police officers & their Owners in their herding & Guarding duties  there is a huge distinction.

And that doest mean we justify their existance, in serving what is 2 Very Expensive Occupations, while we go Bust at home, and are Looted by the Federal Reserve & Socialist Bailouts for Traitor Banksters.

But as Israeli Dual Citizen Henry Kissinger, Former Secretary of State, and advisor to the Bush Administration said to Haig.. "Military Men are Dumb, Stupid animals to be used as pawns in Foreign Policy' -Quoted by Bob Woodward in The Final Days, 1976

Here in the UK we send both GSDs and gundogs out to warzones.  I have friends how are serving and recently the UK had a public award service called the "Millies" and during the award process a dog and dog handler were awarded for all that they had done to help our troops.  They asked that the award be for the loss of a collegue and his dog's life, however so many people praised all that the dogs and handlers had done to aid our efforts in the war process.  The GSDs are no different in this.

We accept the dogs as working Police and Army dogs in this country and really what they do is no different overseas.

I like your thinking John Kennedy, send in the really bad people in prison (rapist, murders, etc...)

If the dogs go into war with the troops, then I do consider that "work".  If they are just tossing them out to get a view of what's going on, then that is B.S. I didn't really understand from the article.

The jihadist consider dogs unclean. The dogs have just as much to lose as the non islamic nations, if the taliban should prevail.

If one is willing to risk his life for his country, then I do not consider it too much to ask of  "man's best friend" to put his life on the line also.
