I'm in the process in purchasing a GSD puppy. I debating investing in training the pup either as a pup or as a adult. Getting him trained by a professional as a puppy almost cost just as much as an adult. Can anyone tell me if it's really worth the investment of trainng him as a puppy or should I just wait until he is an adult and just do basic sit, down stay type of training myself as a puppy. Can someone recommend an excellent trainer in the Los Angeles area.

Why not join a Schutzhund Club in your area and train there. You can do your pup. Then if you still want someone else to train him when older you will have had a chance to see who any of the club may suggest.

I would love to, the problem is that the nearest club is very far away from me. I also attempted to contact them but never got a replied back.

The day your pup comes to you , is the day you start imprinting and bonding and training him or her..
You do not need a person other than some books, and videos on here to use..
If you wait two weeks after you get him or her, you may have a nightmare on your hands..GSD need bonding and proper puppy training the right way from day one..You must learn play, play bite, how to handle biting puppies, and how to be alpha and when to correct and when to not correct and how to kennel or when to not kennel..SO many things you need to know . THIS database is full of articles about puppy raising from those who know best,.,
It is much easier to train them right then have to UNDO bad training...Tons of helps here on this database to learn by
Get the book by Susan Barwig and Hillard the Theory and Method of Schutzhund , even if you are not going to title,...it is easy for green gsd owners and is to be read from cover to cover...GSD pups need lots of exercise and need to be under your lock and key and need to know who is boss , but with love and POSITIVE enforcements,.,Use the dogs prey drive , toys, rags , tiny treats of natural food, to train and get his ./her attention...read read read articles about gsd not pet dogs,,Next important thing is SOCIALIZING with family and outsiders after their shots are given ,
