I think we should add a freestyle obedience performance class to our IPO trials....Would be be a crowd pleaser :)
Here's an example......

Great performance! And fun to watch!

I think everyone should do whatever they and their dog enjoys, but freestyle dancing has to be about the most stupid. The human never has a sense of rhythm and the dog usually sort of stands there staring at the human. I can't imagine adding this to an IPO trial. Ugh!

Greyhoundgirl....It was meant in jest.....but why don't you tell us how you really feel.....LOL.

Is there some rule that the participants must have no sense of rhythm? This - sport? - drives me crazy as I have yet to see anyone that does it do a good job and not look like they are out there just wanting attention. More power to them though, as they are spending quality time with their dog

I do get that you were kidding about adding this to IPO, but still, ugh!

Greyhoundgirl, don't be so negative !  Did you actually WATCH
clc's video ?

Doesn't fit your description at all, does it ?

In the UK we have many people doing Freestyle / Heelwork
to Music / Doggy Dancing,  the majority of them do it very
well indeed.  Including a couple of pairings that have won or
been highly placed in things like Britain's Got Talent ... all
VERY entertaining;  and there are dog Competitions just for that
discipline.  As you recognise, it takes a lot of intensive work with
their dogs to get good at it, a level of contact and commitment we
should all encourage, not be offhand about.  [Or worse ... "Ugh" !!!
Really ?]

The only reasons I'd disagree with putting it into IPO are that it's one
thing GSDs are NOT often all that good at;  and IPO is meant to test
the functions of the Shepherd as a breed, not just be a clever bit of
fun with them.

In fact, it's yet another 'sport' where Border Collies reign supreme, but
I'd never discourage anyone from trying it, with any breed.

Thanks.  It was a fun video. In the words of Miranda Lambert ....since the beginning, to keep the world spinning, it takes all kinds of kinds.

Of course I watched the videos and am still horrified at the lack of rhythm and how stupid it is. The first video was worse than the second.

I'm still all for them doing it as they are spending quality time with their dog, but it's still a joke.

Greyhound girl, before we take you serious, we need to see YOU dance. LOL
