I was wondering what the major differences between PSA and French Ring are.

From recent posts, some of you may know I've been looking into FR.

I tried reading the rules for PSA, but I'm on my phone and it wouldn't download the .pdf file.
From outward appearances, it seems like PSA is (a lot) closer to FR than SchH.

The breeder I've picked out is also active in PSA with her dogs, so would that give me a better standing at getting a FR suited pup? (And I understand 100% there are a ton of variables aside from a sire or dam's titles that will determine this).

Would like to add, since I will be getting a GSD, and if I do decide to pursue FR, I will be hopeful, but not expecting, to reach the higher levels of FR.

Thank you for any and all input. :)

It's a right decision to pursue FR for your German Shepherd Dogs. Hope you will reach the higher levels.

less reading more experiencing.  PSA isn't  any closer to FR than IPO is to FR.

They all present their challenges, they are all tough to do well in.  They all have their merits and all of them are a good show of character of the dog they're trying to create if you're doing them legit.  The rest is fluff.  People will write for days and talk for years about how they "think" things are in certain sports.  They are all sports, none of them are more "real" or anything than the other.  Find what you have fun doing, find what you have access to, decide what your goals are, get your dog and do it.

The reason I asked for the differences was because the general consensus about SchH is that if you obtain a SchHIII with your dog, it tells someone how you are as a trainer and not necessarily about your dog. Weak/nervy dogs can be titled high in SchH, where that doesn't seem to be possible in FR or PSA. (These are just generalizations based on what others have said).

When I get the opportunity, I'll be going out to spectate, ask questions, take notes, compare, etc.

I will also add that when I went to PSAK9's website to find a club near me, the breeder I've picked out is the contact person for the only club in my state. :)
I think that gives me a bonus not only in the fact I'm likely setting myself up for success no matter which protection sport I choose, but if I have any general questions regarding protection, she may very well be able to not only answer them for me, but help me first-hand.

there are as much nervous and weak dog's in FR as in any other sport and yes they can become champions if their handler is good enough, check out the offspring of some very recent french ring final winners and see howmany good ones you can find, compare it to the amount of offspring that are born i think your in for a very big surprize
no in the championdog you won't see the beheviour unless your part of the team trainning the dog, their handlers are way to good for that, so are other toptrainners/handlers in other sports judge a dog true the percentage of good offspring he gives, these day's it tells you more than results on a competitionfield or try to see a non club trainning of those trainners although that's not a easy task because if they know you come the dog will be outstanding and spectacular in everything they do
