We are putting together a Schutzhund/IPO Club!  Finally Northwestern Michigan gets a club where handlers can come together to train our working/sport dogs.  We are already looking at 3-8+ (# growing weekly!) GSDs, 2 potential Dobermans, 3 Airedale terriers (oorang), maybe a bully breeder and a local sheriffs new mal pup.  We are just getting things started and wondered who else might be interested?

As for location, we will be training at different private properties and some local community parks to start with.  This allows us plenty of room to lay many multiple tracks in lots of different cover, while at the same time others can start working their obedience in large shaded areas, both open and fenced.  In other words, we will have room to spare!  We will be sponsoring the club and providing the equipment to start with, including the blinds, a-frame, jump, dumb bells, send out poles, sleeves, bite pillows, bite bars, flirt poles, etc.  The only thing is we won't be doing any suit work to start with, just sleeve.

Last fall I spoke at length with Brian Harvey and he said he would mentor a club if we can get it off the ground and going.  He will accept, view and critique members videos of them working their dogs (an additional fee is required for this private service).  He would also come up and put on at least two seminars.  One geared towards training any decoys we have that need training and/or sharpening up.  I told him once we got things rolling I'd let him know.

We have 5 potential decoys.  Only one of those five has no dog and no dog experience (He is left handed and wears a right sleeve, I don't know about everyone else, but I like the idea of being able to work my dogs on both arms.  He very coordinated, solidly built and driven to learn and get certified) all the others have at least one dog that they will be working in the club.

Greatest thing of all is most are committed enough to train twice a week!  Now we are talking the makings of a real club.

Where is it located? I'm in Grand Rapids, sick of driving to Ann Arbor or farther for good training.

We are moving to West Branch MI. Would enjoy being part of an all breed club up that way.
Have BH working on IPO1 on our 3 yr male.
