Is there normally only 4 male and one female entry in national competitions?

Big congrats to my trainer and friend Chris Maverden and his dog Danger. They worked really hard to get this title.

Holy sh*t.  One of the 'WUSV helper candidates' for this event was Ray Jeffers.  This guy should NEVER be permitted to do helper work for ANY working dog event, be it USCA, WDA, Ringsport, PPD or anything else--he has a history of neglecting dogs of his own as well as those belonging to others that he had accepted for boarding & training, as well as losing client's dogs.  He starved a dog of his own damn near to death before the breeder of the dog finally traveled from the West Coast to North Carolina to repossess the dog and save it's life. Don't believe me? Read the threads, and contact the parties involved. If GSDCA-WDA is so much as CONSIDERING letting this scum set foot on the trial field they need to be made aware of what baggage this individual carries with him, and they need to know that there are people who will contact the WUSV well in advance of the event to protest any involvement with that trial by Ray Jeffers.  He's the training director of a WDA club, for f****s sake?!?!?  What the hell?

He not only was a helper candidate, he was selected as one of the helpers to try out in October for the WUSV. If you have concerns, now is the time to brin them to the SV.

by hexe on 30 April 2013 - 22:04

Of course he did. He's become a fine upstanding citizen who is on many local and state-level political committees and commissions and just an all-around pillar of his community.  Never mind that other people's dogs died under his 'care', both other people's dogs and his own dog were starved in his hands, and dogs belonging to others mysteriously disappeared on his watch--he's heading up the Durham 'Woofstock' festival and arranging for canine recreational activities in the parks...and we're all supposed to forget what he did to those other dogs.

Thank you for that update, GSD4Dogs--so the situation has become even more critical now.

Yes, it is time to make this info known to the SV. I did contact John Wilhendorf, but since I'm not one of the parties whose dogs were in Jeffers' hands, he gives no weight to what I could tell him, and he flat out stated that he considers anything posted here to be suspect.  I have reached out to the three women who posted here about their experiences with him, and asked them to contact both John and the GSDCA-WDA [both the parent club and the offshoot organization] and provide them with the facts of the situations.  John likewise suggested that GSDCA and WDA members should contact those organizations and make their feelings known on the subject.

This can't be permitted to happen...what's next? Helser being selected as a helper as well? Heck, maybe Lorenzo Williams will even resurface for that kind of opportunity!

This needs to be a thread of its own; buried here in the Universal Sieger thread, this situation will be overlooked, just as Jeffers becoming a WDA member club training director has been under the radar all this time.

Who are the other helpers selected to try out?  Jeffers and Torrence and who else?

by Sheesh on 01 May 2013 - 20:05

I will make one post on this topic-
I had the pleasure of meeting Ray Jeffers a year or two ago. He was a very pleasant and friendly young man at initial meeting. I watched his helper work, as he was becoming certified by our trainer. Ray has a natural instinct and rapport with dogs that is beautiful to watch.
Earlier this year, I made several trips to NC to Ray's training club to train. Not only was he extremely welcoming, along with his group, and Cynthia, but again, his talent with reading each individual dog was phenomenal. My own dog is very difficult to work, and he was extremely peceptive and sensitive in addressing his needs.
I also saw several dogs over several weeks that were in Ray's care, that were training and shown, that were all in good physical condition, happy healthy, and training.
I did not know this person at the time of the puported accusations, however he would have been about 24 yrs old... I am not making excuses for bad behavior or bad choices if they were indeed made, but how long should a person be crucified for them??? I suppose everyone here led a flawless existence before they "grew up"?
The man that I know is an awesome trainer and awesome dog handler.

THANK GAWD my bad choices as a young adult aren't plastered all over the fricking internet.
