Hard, yes, impossible, no. I have worked a dog that was a former Ring dog and the person wanted to do IPO and I will tell you, getting that dog at the age of 4 to bite arms AND stay on the arm was very trying..I do know that I would have a problem trusting that dog to do a long attack on just a sleeve.
Again, it can be done, if you have the time and the proper help to do it, is it worth it...I am not sure about that. Good luck, I hope it works out for you.

There are many differences in the two.
Bark and hold, and grip development (only on a sleeve) are two that come into mind.

You will have to find an excellent helper who can train you and your dog to overcome these issues.

I'm not sure I would work the dog in both venues at the same time.....might get someone hurt.

IMO it REALLY depends on the individual dog.  I have taken multiple dogs from Ring to IPO and back again to Ring :-)  I just always make sure the helper pops them a grip up close before we do any distance work, so they know what type of equipment we are working with, and where their target is.   With most of them it was not an issue, with one our stint in IPO was 1 session on a back line and harness, then back to Ring and a full suit.  The first time the decoy stung this dog with the whip he said "screw the sleeve" and tried to go after the man, when that didn't work (couldn't reach him) he just crushed the sleeve.  You could tell he was PISSED.  We decided maybe he wasn't a good candidate for a cross over LOL  Got some great barking from him in that session though :-)

The biggest problem I see with a Ring dog and IPO is the pivot training, if you have an IPO helper that decides to turn early on their catch, or doesn't keep the sleeve in a biteable position (escape bite they put it in front of themselves) the dog may or may not go around them to get to the sleeve, they may just grab what is available.  Which is what their foundation training has taught them.  But once again, it really does depend on the dog.
