Xeph

by Xeph on 25 October 2012 - 23:10

I'm seeing improvements in this puppy since I last took a picture of him :)  His butt is finally starting to come back down to earth, rear angles are a little better.  Croup is greatly improved, in my opinion.  Would still like a higher wither.  Why do withers tend towards being flat in the working lines?  Seems to be a real issue.

This pup is leggy as all get out, but well muscled.  Not fat.

He desperately needs more coat.  He is not the darkest sable ever, but he's not this light, either.  I just suck at positioning.  I seriously cannot get an understanding of where to place my dogs so they don't get hit by too much sunlight.  His actual pigment is excellent :)

I am open to other thoughts :)

I think he's nice, overall. He's YOUNG! You're acting as if he's 3 years old critiquing him like that. He will fill out, his coat will come in more, hopefully, and likely darken a bit. I'd like to see more bone and a bit nicer head, but his head is correct enough.

I critique all my dogs like this constantly.  It's normal for me :)  I never stop evaluating.  I have an 8.5 year old dog, and to this day I still evaluate him.  That's just how I am.

I will admit, I do not want more bone.  I feel many of the dogs have gotten too heavy boned.  He's going to be a big dude as it is, and I'm not sure how he'll ever fit under a restaurant table!

He definitely could use a better head.  It is correct, and it isn't hideous, but it's not a show stopper, either.

Well, then his bone is fine.Wink Smile It's all what you're used to. You show Am. lines, which I don't think I've ever even seen in person, so I have a totally different perspective.

Coming along nicely. Congrats.

Jenni, he has a lot more bone in person as well.  This is a Bandit Wolfsheim son.  Dad is actually a bit coarse for me (though I'm not a fan of super refined, either).

I think he may mature into a dog that has the kind of bone people like.  I am VERY happy that his feet came back together and his pasterns came back up.  He went down for a little while just because there was so much bone and weight to carry around.

He is interesting to look at, since he's not what I'm used to.  He does have a lot of good points though, and I thank you for your time looking at him

Xeph, If you don't like him, I'll gladly take him off your hands! LOL!

Bernd v. Lierberg appears in the pedigrees of the majority of working line dogs. His head was his worst feature. His nose and jaw weren't quite on the same planes. His brother's
head was even worse:

:

Of course, there are some working lines out there with really nice heads:

Mind you, I might be just a WEE bit predjudiced when it comes to this guy...  Teeth Smile

I love when i get a nice big head on a working line. this is my boy at 6 months i believe he always looked like a adult dog because of the size of his bone.

Well, if you think Bandit is coarse, then we really have different perspectives! You'd hate mine! Teeth Smile

Sunsilver...I don't see what is so awful about Bernd's head. The angle of the second pic makes it pretty impossible to compare apples to apples,  so I can't see what you're saying just by comparing the two. Enlighten, por favor! ;-)
