So there's a woman on youtube who does some training videos. Apparently she breeds Labs and German Shepherds as well. She's a trainer, but every single video I've watched she uses a loud pager to train the dogs. Like literally every single dog she trains she uses this thing on them. I think it's annoying, but she commented on a video of one of my dogs a month ago saying my dog doesn't have any enthusiasm. Basically I should use the pager and treats she said in training and even on my walks.........Even though in the video it was my pup "Little Dude" who I was just doing a few basics with after a 4 mile walk (lots of steep hills) and he was tired......Not to mention I was using treats in the video at times. My question though, have any of you guys used that pager? And if so what do you think about using them? To me it seems like a very cheap way of training, as in she's too dependent on that one tool. And my other question, do you guys always care how "animated" your dogs look when doing things (In regular walks......Or if it's not a dog that's going to be doing Schutzhund or going for a BH and you just want to do obedience with them?) Personally with my Huskies I prefer them to be more calm in the commands, they're so commonly known as over hyper, untrainable dogs...... But I don't care if all four of my dogs are looking so lively and animated throughout a four mile walk....That's ridiculous.
Anyway here is the video with the pager I'm referring to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zZpf6MFy8A&feature=channel_video_title I think it may be a good tool, but it's flat out annoying lol

That has got to be the most annoying sound in the world. My dogs had to come see what i was watching when she started.:(
It reminds me of "nagging". And for a lady who said your dogs had no enthusiasm. I think she should take a look at her own video and look at that dog. He looks annoyed and bored out of his skull.
Just my 2 cents anyway..lol

It's escape training using the pager function on the e-collar instead of electrical stim. Nothing ground breaking about it.

czechdog......What's your point? I didn't say or act like there was anything "ground breaking" about it.

Let me see if I've got this straight--you posted a video on Utube of one of your dogs going through some OB exercises, for the sole purpose of just posting a video of the young dog doing some OB exercises. Period. You weren't asking the world to critique your training techniques, or the dog's performance, you were just posting a nice little 'here's my handsome Husky doing what he's told, which I'm happy about because we all know is not something that comes easily with Huskies'.
And this woman comes along, views your video, and tells you that you're doing it all wrong, and that you should use the training method SHE uses instead, and she oh-so-coincidently sells videos of how to train with this method...and you paid any attention to what she had to say AT ALL? LOL! No offense, GSDguy08, but I'm surprised you let her have any more of your brain time than it took to watch one of her videos--a good trainer knows that you don't screw with what's working, as long as it's humane and reliable and the owner is happy with the results, so as soon as she told you that you were doing it 'wrong', she lost any shred of credibility I might have considered her to have.
Yeah, I've used a pager in training, both the type she's using that makes that obnoxious sound, as well as one that uses vibration instead of sound or shock; they each have their place, but the point is to wean the dog off of whatever tool you're using and get your response from the command alone...so her 'method' isn't better or worse than any other humane method.

hexe in all honesty I mostly just posted that specific video of my pup training.......just for myself. A few of the videos I have on there just for when the dogs are older......or years down the road I can look back and watch them. (A couple of my vids I put a lot of tags on them so they'll get a lot of views, like the howling video) Yeah, you're right though......I gave her too much of my "brain time" lol.

I would say her Dobe really lacks enthusiasm, precision and attitude. I think the only one more annoyed than me with the buzzing was the dog.

I watched the video and that noise was worse than fingernails on a chalkboard. The poor dog was totally disinteresting too. As Jim mentioned the dog lacked enthusiasm and drive. Personally the only use for that collar would be to take to the range and help site in my rifle at 1000 yards!!
