Anyone have any advice on how to straighten out the sit and platz when doing the motion exercises and at the normal stop.

He is 19months and we have really nice focus now and i have the ball in my left hand behind his head where he is not able to see it.

My dog isn't forging but he does get too close to my leg at times and i raise my knee and do left turns when he does but i still get slightly crooked sits and platz.
Thanks.

I am having the SAME issue right now. Upon the advice from someone who trains at my club I now either practice the exercises in motion next to a fense so the dog can not sit crooked. It was also recommended to work next to a curb in a parking lot. The curb thing has worked better for me than the fense does.

What you do is heel really close to the curb, where the dog is almost touching it with the outside leg, then when in motion ask for a sitz (I started with the sit in motion first). If the dog tries to sit crooked it will bump its flank on the curb and then will automatically straighten out. I repeated this exercise about 20 times and then did it a couple times out on the field I practice in by my house. After doing it a couple times in the field I came back to working next to the curb. I wanted to make sure my dog had it ingrained in her head she HAS to sitz or platz STRAIGHT.

Hope this helps!

the fence and curb will not help you in the long run , you have to teach the dog to work with his rear end
in this clip you can see how I do this with 15 month old male , just started on obedience

It all depands on a dog .Use tug most dogs have less drive for tug this way they are easier to train. releae the tug on his upper side to the left this will ease most forging and crowding .Also do not correct him toward your face this will case the dog to crowd.  As for sits and down go back to basic use food if he still goes for it .Fence usually works but he may go back to the bad habbits again or he might think that he can sits sideway  but not next to the fence .Teach him sits at low level  then speed it up .If you need more on basics PM me . Good luck .

if you are not steering correct a concrete wall will keep you from driving off the road , but as soon as the wall  ends , your history , so it is the steering you have to correct !!

Duke ,I am totally agreeing with you . Foundation has to be correct you are saying it better then me ...It is hard to say what you  mean just by typing a few words. And as for your steering things you have to watch for potholes also .lol .
