What size ball on a rope do you use when playing tug with your dog? 2.5" or 3"?

larger the better.....

The blue one is the one with the rope. It is a bit smaller than the red Jolly Ball. He likes both!

I use a medium Gappay (2.5"?) but one dog is young and the other is on the medium side (which looks small to a lot of people) and doesn't have a massive bear head. I had a larger one and it was fine but came off the string right away.

Jolly balls will wear your dog's teeth down to nubs

He already did that with real rocks! Likes any thing round. I was taking picts of his mouth, maybe I'll post it on the dental flaw thread over in the Conformation side . We make sure he doesn't get to go after rocks anymore, a tad OCD, you know? Don't know of anything else that can take his chomps the way a Jolly Ball does. When he was a pup, he'd chew the handle off. Now that he's older and wiser, he makes use of the "handle", lol.
So what would you suggest, Dude? That can take the toss and chomp, day after day? What is Gappay and what is it made of?

gappay 2.5 inch.
unless you have a monster that likes to bite those in half or a very large GSD or Rott that
might accidently swallow that size.
I like the smaller ball because i dont let the dog see where I have it. He knows that
I always have a ball, on me, somewhere. So the smaller is easier to conceal.
My GSD is large - 92 pounds. I use 2.5 in. I usually have a hold of the rope
when he is playing with it or he is running after the ball and scooping it off the ground. I dont
throw the ball up and let him catch it out of the air.

Thanks everyone for the input.
I had (2) of these balls but lost them both. One went into someone's backyard while playing retrieve (threw too high and far) and didn't know whose yard it went into. The second got lost in a tree and couldn't find it in the trees. I like the balls but I felt they were a little too small?

I was going to order another today and I like the one's from EliteK9. Main selling point for me is the handle so the rope doesn't slide through my hand. I see the 2.5" & 3" and wasn't sure if I should go up to the 3" and if it would be too big. If 2.5" is good then I would pick it up. My dog is 15 months and he does get a lil chewy on the ball.

I looked at gappay but I thought they were overseas.

Gappay isn't a what,,it's a who. Czech company that makes dog training equipment. Try "raw" knuckle bones from the butcher, whole not cut into pieces. The beef knuckles are large and round so no sharp edges to cut the gums and mouth. DO NOT COOK THEM and don't use shanks,,KNUCKLES ONLY.

Gappay is overseas,,,there are distributors here in the U.S. Be careful with the smaller ball, it is very easy to lodge in the dog's throat. Advantage, smaller so you can hide it easier on the body. Advantage, handle or rope allows you to retrieve it from the throat in case it does get caught. If you're not doing competitive obedience where you want to hide the ball on your person, I would suggest using the 3 inch.
