Just wondering why people do this...is the testing more strict then what we do here?
by Duderino on 29 September 2011 - 20:09
On the contrary

For me it is b/c that many titles can't be obtained here.
For example, I want to put a ZVV & ZPO title on my dog when he is old enough. Those are czech titles and can't be done over here so I am thinking about sending him back to his breeder (depending on price) to obtain those. It would be cool if I could train & trial him myself but we don't have those tests here in the states.

Ace, it would probably be a good idea to send him away for training. Especially if you want him titled.

Because people have money and do not have time. And/or the title is just a hoop to jump through for breeding, the actually training of the dog is not what matters to the owner.

Yeah what VKGSD said is correct. Time & money go hand in hand but also people have different reasons. They want to breed the dog and they know the more titles the better it looks to potential buyers. Let it be known that it isn't cheap though and you have to find someone you trust as it will take awhile depending on the dog.
Like I said, for me after Sch2 he is gone back to the Czech Republic to get the 2 titles I can't get here. It is ashame b/c I think that if more titles were available to to obtain more people would train.

I would think so as well Slam since those are not titles obtainable here in the U.S.

I've heard of some of the prices and it's way cheaper than the YEARS I spend training each of my dogs and titling them. I'm talking about people that just want a title, period. So they ship a dog over and 3 months later it went from 0 to V SchH3 KKL1. Even with the costs of shipping both ways, training/boarding, and the entry/paper fees it costs less than what I spend just going from 8 weeks to BH level because I don't have my own abundance of helpers who will work dogs for free. I see your point but I think sending a dog oversees to get titles we can't get here is going to be in the minority of people who send dogs away for titles. I think the vast majority are doing it to get the title so they can continue to breed and show. The title not only "looks better" but is required by the SV for breeding. In the USA the AKC is always critized for having no requirements for breeding but the SV does and IMO it just fosters the attitude that titles are just something you get out of the way as fast as possible, when really it should always be about the training and what that exposes about the dog, the title is just the reward for a job well done.

well...a friend of mine sent her bitch to Germany to get it's title...Sch1. The dog just came back to the states....when she brought the dog out the van, I already knew what the outcome was going to be.....dog that wouldn't bite a steak...but will be bred because her pedigree is super....breed survey and Koer klass and bingo....2500 dollars a pup.....If you can't trial it here.....it can be done for a price:-(

I just can't understand what pride people have in owning a dog they have not trained themselves, where is the fun? Just pride and money. Many people are just too lazy to put in the work required to title a dog in any discipline but they like to have the bragging rights to the titles they bought!
