KANSAS CITY, MO.— A teen girl and an adult relative face animal abuse charges after police say that the teen set a Black Lab puppy on fire in the backyard of her family's home.
Maria Alarcon, 43, of Kansas City, Missouri, faces animal neglect charges because authorities say she waited a day before getting "Phoenix" to a veterinary office for care after her 14-year-old relative allegedly hit the dog with a shovel, poured gasoline on him and set him on fire.

CHATHAM (CBS) – Five gray seals have been found shot to death on Cape Cod beaches in recent weeks.
According to the International Fund for Animal Welfare’s Marine Mammal Rescue and Research team, all five seals died from those gunshot wounds.
The killings have stunned enviornmental officials.
“We work really hard to rescue these guys and to have other humans do this to them, it’s tough, it definitely is tough,” said Sarah Sharpe, the stranding coordinator with the IFAW.

Australia is considering awarding carbon credits for killing feral camels as a way to tackle climate change.
The suggestion is included in Canberra's "Carbon Farming Initiative", a consultation paper by the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, seen Thursday.
