Not being a Member of either, could someone briefly describe the difference between the two, and perhaps which you might prefer and recommend for someone new to join?

Thanks,
Vixen

Vixen, I don't do either but according to my teenage son, if you don't have a Facebook account you just aren't counted. I think Twitter would be for someone who likes to follow famous people's conversations around, but really this damn site is enough for me, lol

....And a game of Bejeweled 3, every now and again!

Facebook for me.
With you being able to change your status every second I don't see the point in tweeting unless liek beetree pointed out, you like to follow famous people.

Me too, Ace, I'm on Facebook but not Twitter.  I don't really understand twitter,  I'm not into reading about what my friends are doing as they go about their lives during their day, and I am positive  no one would be interested in my horribly mundane daily activities either.

As for celebrities, I'm not too interested in their daily lives either, besides from what I understand, celebrities use the services of professional tweeters just to make sure their tweets don't appear either too mundane or too over the top, their reality has little to do with what gets tweeted in their name.

If your friends and family are on facebook then it makes sense to join. No one in my circle of friends/family talks on the phone anymore- it's just assumed that you read it on facebook. We co-ordinate family events through facebook (like signing up for potlucks). You can also join groups that you are interested in- I'm a member of a working dog group that let's me know about local shows and training events.

@beetree - I love bejeweled blitz too. Well, as long as my score is higher than my husband's!

Thanks everyone for your views.  Had to laugh at the teenage son who would not consider anyone "counted" without a Facebook account.

From what as been said Facebook sounds somewhat confusing or similar to a public telephone.  Twitter gives the impression of quick gossipy access.  With 'Celebrities' using their Press Secretaries to communicate!  LOL.

I think I will stick with what I know and feel comfortable with ..... two empty tins and a long piece of string!!!!

Steve, I have the same issue. I figured out people didn't do that if I only had a pic of myself or son up. Put the dogs up and wammo, people from all over the world that see a GSD and feel the need to add me, even if they don't speak english. I got tired of their updates which I couldn't even read, so I cleaned up my friends list and wont add anymore people I don't know personally or from a forum.

I like FB for sharing pics with family and friends all over the country. I even had my 5th grade teacher find me, she now lives in Italy. Nice to hear she is doing well. So much easier than having to attach photos or send a link to a photosite out in emails. Only the people who want to look, go and look. It's the main way I keep track of my aunt and cousins that live out of state and many friends I lost touch with and found again along the way.

Twitter on the other hand, I have no interest in. Sounds tedious and annoying.

Definately Facebook.  I have people I never heard of either wanting to be friends or tag my photos--I definately think it is the dogs.  But I am only friends with people I either know in real life or I am related to.  I have found people from the past also and it was a good thing.  I like too that I can post a new pic or comment and don't have to send out 20 emails.  I have never been to Twitter but when I first heard about it something just turned me off. I only go to FB and here and my scrabble club.
