The Warrior Gene - Page 1

I recently heard about this relatively new gene discovery. The scientists say about 30% of men carry this gene. I didn't see this documentary "Born to Rage" but find this interesting. I'm sure my DH has it, and I don't, or I have 2 copies that cancel each other out, or so the theory goes. Check out this link for more:

I wish there was a test for male pattern baldness... it isn't as simple as what was taught when I was taking HS biology, anymore. My teenage son is at that age where he is in love with his hair. I'm hoping he gets to keep it...    I don't think the warrior gene is sex linked though, unlike BB Bb bb  ................?

".....Monoamine oxidase A is an enzyme that breaks down important neurotransmitters in the brain, including dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin. The enzyme is regulated by monoamine oxidase A gene (MAOA). Humans have various forms of the gene, resulting in different levels of enzymatic activity. People with the low-activity form (MAOA-L) produce less of the enzyme, while the high-activity form (MAOA-H) produces more of the enzyme.

Several studies have found a correlation between the low-activity form of MAOA and aggression in observational and survey-based studies. Only about a third of people in Western populations have the low-activity form of MAOA. ...."

Beetree, interesting read and it was a preliminary study I believe.  The sample size of the participants was small and also a sample of convenience which makes it difficult to generalize to the public.  It may have been the start of a much bigger study that may currently be going on.  They would have to investigate the family/social/environmental dynamics the person lived in and how that influences the participants behaviors and reactions.
I will be curious to see the results on study of this .....:0)

I really wish they could have found a better name.
There is absolutely no comparison between people who lack impulse control and self-discipline [hey! lets blame it on a gene!], and the overwhelming majority today's Military Personnel.
