When someone has so little experience...They should sit back and take the opportunity to learn from those that have the experience needed to work different dogs...Ask questions...But to say things to show their ignorance is a pretty dumb thing to do...
Not everyone will take the time to share their knowledge...Look...If you don't have the experience to talk about something why would you say such things...I mean you should be appreciative to the people that are willing to share their knowledge...
Slam and Keith seem to have experience with this type training and are putting a topic out that should be talked about...Why...and...How is a table used...If you don't know How...and...Why you'd use a Whip or a Reed Stick then you don't understand how to use them properly...
Now there's other things that are used that I don't really think should be put out there for the "unknowledgeable public"...I think there are many things that you just need to get out there and learn and experience Hands-On...If someone's willing to take the time to teach you...

keith and jim. great posts.
and keith i can relate with causing conflict with your own dog and not others. for me though it was because i had invested interest and personal relationship.
but i could handle/train anyone elses dogs. your not alone man. im sure many of us have caught ourselves doing this at some point that have had enough
dogs under our hands.
But being every dog is different, maybe you guys and some others could go more in depth here.
how exactly can you slow a dog down and its benefits. how does it actually help calm the dog in the grip? how can it help them deal with the pressure if working in defense?
what are you doing and looking for from this tool to obtain balance? some of the physiological differences both in dog and decoy you look for?etc.... but please put the other side(helpers) to this equation in these questions please.
just a rough break down of maybe say 3 classifications of dogs. as we all know everyone is different. but say a prey dog to bring up fight and defense. training a dog mostly defense and less prey. and dogs like keiths to take handler out and slow/calm the dog allowing it to be successful.

Samael28,
Excellent questions and would make an interesting topic for a thread.

Slam, you have the patience of a saint....the poster has been training dogs for ten minutes and is now passing judgement on a method of training as a " crutch"? Listen to Q man, you don't have a clue, but even worse you don't know you don't know....smh!

Cliff,
Ahhh, we all have to start some where and it seems he really enjoys his dog. I hope to see you at the WUSV, I am skipping a 3 day white water rafting trip to go. It will be here before we know it.

gus i think i am pretty open and honest about my skill/knowledge level, you don't have to actually have first hand experience of something to know it's not for you;
do you think leprosy is a good thing to have? - wait don't have an opinion unless you tried it...see what i mean.

ok guys. pissing contests gets us all nowhere and no knowledge tranferred. vk, remember this is a tool. gustav remember outside looking in and not knowing can cause false assumtions.
just like keith causing issues with his own dog we are all so passionate about our own stuff we allow conflict to come in. so lets just let it go. plz
put the dog up and calm down. and hit another training session later., haha. sure you guys love that analogy lol

A weak dog will hang on his blankie too. It is the safe zone.
