in KNPV all dogs have to pick up metal, but a whole bunch of them wouldnot do it if they had a choice, in general the result in trail looks the same, but in breeding it is a different story

That being said, I want them balanced. You CAN have it all. They can have the drive, yet live perfectly well as a member of the family.
And that's why I love this breed so much.

Very good prey drive and full grip ( mostly genetics ) looks like a fine sport dog prospect , but other factors come in if the pup is to be used for other venues

Yes that's the direction GSD has gone in the last decade or so , lots of high prey /hunt drive .... Problem is a dog must have the right balance between prey /hunt and fight drive . Great looking dog and good luck with him .. I like seeing more videos here instead of members posting useless pedigrees and writing up falacies . Post a video damn it

A dog doesn't need a high prey drive to have a high hunt drive.
I have seen a lot of dogs with very high prey that didn't possess any hunt drive whatsoever, and seen low to medium drive dogs with a very high hunt drive. And if you read closely I am talking about balance all the time. You can have a highly driven dog like that, that is balanced. You can have a dog like that, that doesn't leak, that doesn't scream, that has plenty of fight and aggression and has no issues with civil bites, yet be the greatest pet of all times that needs little to no exercise for weeks and months, that's safe in every type of situation.

Thanks, Baerenfangs! Of course you must have balance. The last dog I raised and placed with PD,(2014) had low prey, high hunt, and big time fight with the nerves to handle his drives....that's why he is working the streets today.
