Kinolog, these added details make me angry at the breeder...it's one thing for the breeder to say that they'd like the dog's owner to allow them to work with him, handle him in the show ring and title him because he has matured into such a fine example of the breed, while understanding if the owner preferred not to take them up on that offer. Quite another to ask the dog's owner to GIVE them the dog BACK because as a breeder they failed to accurately assess this pup's potential versus the one they chose to keep...if the breeder feels so strongly about the dog's potential, they should at least have had the decency to make an honest offer to BUY the dog back from his owner. I don't think much of a breeder who tries this kind of tactic, frankly, and yes, knowing about it would absolutely leave me unlikely to do business with that individual.

The breeder who's trying to get the dog is a jerk. My dog is definitely too good for me, and I wouldn't be surprised if my breeder wishes he was with someone with upper-level aspirations. Difference is that I don't actually know, because the breeder's never told me in any of the hundred-ish times I've seen him since I brought home the puppy.

100% agree with Hexe's post ^^^.
Although we do not have "professional" Handlers in the US
sense on the UK scene, we have many who will do just the
sort of arrangement Hexe describes. If you 'take over' the
display side of the dog, the owner retains control of entries,
keeps the dog at home with them if they want to, it is still
their dog, their companion; the handler gets a fee and the
kudos of showing a nice dog that often gets placed. Part
of the 2-way supportive nature of the UK GSD community
(often referred to by posters as lacking in the American
version).
What the sibling's owner, this other interested breeder, is
seeking to do is IMO 'understandable' in a society that so
often packs off its dogs to live on the road with a professional
show handler. Should take "No" for an answer, though !
Shitty behaviour to try to press the point by making Kinalog's
friend feel they are doing the DOG a dis-service.
