The COI is useful and thanks to the admins for adding it .. however there is more complexity to inbreeding than a calculator .. inbreeding animals already inbred on the same or other ancestors for several generations even though under the 15% threshold will still get you in a bunch of trouble. If the breeder doesn't reshuffle the deck after a close inbreeding then bad things can and often do happen. I am not opposed to inbreeding or linebreeding as I do some in my breeding system but the limitations will become obvious and heartbreaking if you take the practice too far or too often.

the calculation is purely theoretical and in most cases wil not reflect actual level of inbreeding , where every pup in one litter will have a different package of genes but will have the same pedigree and therefore the same
COI
I really dont see any use of this COI in actual breeding or improving quality or health of future breeding combinations
people like to capure everythig in graphs, scheduals and numbers, but breeding will never work that way

The COI can give you a guide to backmassing that is not always apparent when you look at pedigrees.

if a dog is in your dog his/her pedigree on the lets say seventh generation, that doesnot perse mean your dog actually carrys many/any genes from that dog

I think it is just another tool in the tool box.
What it does do is indicate the probability that two alleles for any gene are identical by descent. Notice it says the probability and not the fact.
Should this be the only tool used when doing inbreeding? No. But for some it might help.

Thanks for all the work that went into this .. now the ball is in our court to study this new tool (read the owners manual), learn what it can and can't do, and use it correctly and when appropriate.

WOW! I am so impresed how fast you put my sugestion into play. Thank you everyone involved in making this happend.
And yes, this is just another tool in the toolbox, not something you make your decisions on.
