Yuup, that's exactly the chew bone that caused THIS:

TOOK THOR TO VET TODAY HE BROKE TIP OF RIGHT TOOTH! THOR cracked and broke off tip of top right tooth playing with ALASKA’S old stupid super large for big “hard chewers” nylabone!!!!! !!!!####@@##@$%*&&*&**&^%%^^
This bone he never took an interest in at all arrrrrrrr!!!!!!!

I took THOR to the vet today and we are very lucky the vet told me to leave it be and just watch for any infection for the next two weeks. He said most likely it will be fine . It was not broke up to the gumline …, but right to the tip of the pulp and bled for a minute. Now the bottem is sharper, (like a shark tooth!) not round. The vet told me if it bothers THOR he could file the tooth rounder. I also I called the only Florida licensed Vetinarian Dentist available, Dr. Beckamn in Punta Gorda, (Animal Hospital) and was told by the staff that NYLABONE keeps them in business!!!!
(And yes you can quote that as I told her I would be telling everyone about this horrible product and may even tell petsmart too)

I WAS TOLD BY THE STAFF DURING MY PHONE CALL THAT THE RULE OF THUMB IS DO NOT LET YOUR DOG CHEW OR PLAY WITH ANYTHING YOU CAN NOT bounce UPON YOUR KNEE !!!!!!
THIS INCLUDES REAL BONES ALSO!!
(IF IT HURTS YOUR KNEE IT IS NOT TO BE USED, PERIOD I WAS TOLD.)

ROOT CANAL AND DOG TOOTH CROWNS ARE ABOUT $3,000!!!!!

The exact NYLABONE bone this is: the " BIG CHEW FOR HARD CHEWERS" the packaging states:

" VIRTUALLY INDESTRUCTIBLE VERY HARD NYLON."
The bone looks like a big ole real cow bone, with very large knuckles on each end....
not the straight typical looking simple doggie bone type.

The marketing color of this bone on the package is GREY, product package has a "STEEL" (look) background giving the impresssion the bone is " hard as steel" Which it is.

I've bolded the really important parts of the above quote, for those of you who want to know how to avoid spending $3,000 for a root canal and tooth crown...

Give her coconuts. haha. I know a breeder who would give his dogs nice, green coconuts. She'd probably tear through it, but still love it. May not be a toy, but she'll like it, I bet. They're cheap, too.

[sings...] I've got a loverly bunch of coconuts...there, they are, hangin' in a row....

Interesting suggestion, but I live in Canada, Reb. Unfortunately, they're not a very common item in the supermarkets here!

A large beef leg bone is an excellent idea.

Our dogs Doc warned us quite a while ago about the very hard plastic bone which will be left un-named by me.....  The cases of broken teeth had exploded, the plastic is harder then teeth and one or the other is going to give....  One of the things he had just found out at an annual veterinarians seminar.

I have had dogs eat kongs many times. They just poop them out, no big cause for concern. Might try doing more things with your dog if possible, as boredom is a big factor in that type of chewing. I know it is not always possible to do, but maybe get a book on trick training. Gets their pea brains tired, and the kong destruction rate goes down..............most of the time : )

You're right, Jeff, I need to do more with her. She's a bundle of energy: when she stand and looks at me, even her EARS quiver with anticipation!  I've been very sick with a bad bug this week, thus there's been very little training going on!

Mine doesn't mess with her Kongs, tires, etc....she goes straight for the Dogloo and her nice $400 Options Plus Flooring.

Yeah, and I had only bought the NEW Dogloo less than 24hrs beforehand.  She's already chewed the vent off the top, God knows where all the peices ended up...and is currently working on expanding her living conditions as apparently, the door was not wide enough in her estimations.

But, at least this keeps her from shredding the kennel itself for the time being.

The only thing that helps to stop this is when hunting season is well underway and I can throw her a deer leg.  (pardon for those bambi lovers)

OMG, GSDfanatic!!

Maybe I should be grateful it's just her toys, though she has taken a splinter or two out of my hardwood floor, and chewed the legs of  two of the diningroom chairs!  I also can't put bedding in her crate, or she will chew and swallow that...

Well, could be worse...my friend who owns cardis has 2 pups who are rock eaters. One has had surgery twice to remove rocks. And, despite her best precautions (putting pavers down in the pup's run) he somehow managed to do it AGAIN! Fortunately this time the rocks passed with the help of lots of laxitives. She figures her exuberant lab puppy must have thrown the rocks into the puppy's run, as he sped past.
