Guys,
I am new to the GSD lines. I used to raise beagles for field trail.
I want to get into Working GSD lines. Can some one tell me the lines I should be focusing on to achieve a strong working dog.(DDR)Black/Sables. I want to compete in (SchH / IPO) ect. and work towards titling a few dogs.

Also can you tell me some kennels that has some Grade A Studs

Traits I am looking for in a dog/puppy...

1-Working Ability.
2-Energy (Drive)
3-Conformation
4-Temperament
5-Size
6-Color

Feel free to send respondences to my inbox

Thanks
Lannie

Go visit a few clubs. Join the best of them. Join a national club. Watch, listen, learn.

You need to learn A TON of stuff before you should think about breeding, IMO. As student said, find a good club in your area, watch, listen, ask questions and get involved in the sport. Do this for several years, then think about breeding. It takes a long time to amass enough knowledge to breed good working dogs, and do so according to the SV breeding rules, if that's what you want to do - if you want to do it right. Beware though - schutzhund training can be highly addictive, lol.

Stud dogs are a dime a dozen ... you should already know that if you can call yourself a breeder. Establish a strong female line and then you can pick from the available males that compliment your females. IPO has little to do with breeding good GSD.  If you want good dogs look to Czech and ring sport GSD ... don't be conned by IPO BS .... the winners in the world IPO championships are primarily Mals ... even from Germany.

Although I don't agree with Bubba's bashing of IPO, he does bring up a good point about other working dog disciplines like French Ring, PSA, Mondio, etc. Any of these disciplines will introduce you to the working aspects of the GSD and what to look for in future breeding dogs. Also Bubba's comment about strong females is noteworthy.

Do you want good working dogs or do you want "DDR" "black/sables" ?? Honest question.

Jenni Thumbs Up

Student and Koots answered your question - in case you want to participate in IPO, join several IPO clubs, look at the different dogs out of different lines.
Afterwards visit breeders training and titling their own breeding stock, because only people who actually train and title know what they are doing...

Forget about DDR, Czech, WGW lines, and any other nonsense like colour, just care about the dogs in front of you.

First of all a puppy is the genetic result of sire and dam, not more, not less.

Any "label" like DDR , Czech, WGWL, won´t help, in case the parents didn´t inherit the necessary drives to do the job.

Good luck ( and never forget: within IPO only a titled and breed surveyed dog is suitable for breeding ...)

Go to the FCI IPO World Championships sites and see which breeds and teams are winning. The Mals are the breed dominating the real IPO world championships. I am not a fan of the IPO game but don't develop a breeding program for GSD based on IPO results ... it is a dead end.
