Database/Time for some changes - Page 1

I see the database is up again?? I can not help but wonder why the owner/operator of this site does not see fit to at least let us know why it has been down for a month now. I have said this in the past and I will say it again as many others have,I would be willing to pay a monthly or yearly fee for use of this site to help cover the cost of running it. Run the site,run it right or shut it down for good,you can not run something like this on a shoestring budget,and just be available when you happen to have some extra time to put into it.Before the database cry babies start in on me,check this out........I'm thankful to whoever it is that runs this site, be it Oli or not,we do not need a big kiss Oli's ass for being back up and running again fest,more like you should encourage him to start running this like it meant something to whoever owens it as it does to the people who use and rely on it do. I hope I offended no one as that was not my intent. Just trying to make a point that this site seems to be worth much more to the people that use it then the people that created it.It is just a matter of time before someone will build something as good as this site if not better,charge a small fee for it and do ok for themselves in the process.......Just my honest opinion Charlie

Which is a step in the right direction,I do not want to sound like an ass or ungratefull or anything but this is a very important site to a lot of people,when it is down,many people who depend on it lose money.It needs to be run as a business would be

Before someone buys this site or pays for the info therein, a lot of misinformation needs to be removed. ie, go to www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/392567.html A dog born in 1988 and the sire is listed as Horand?? That's the kind of trash that needs to be removed. That pedigree, and likely many others have been corrupted...and not by the breeder.

That is because anyone of us can add whatever we like,It is basicly on the honor system.The way it should be set up is the info should be sumbmitted,verified,THEN added to the database.All it takes is one idiot to ruin years of hard work.

Charlie Ivory, I agree completely! The Honor system is a nice touchy-feely concept that doesn't work very often...and it certainly has caused problems with this database. IMHO, before anyone can change anything they should be required to submit by mail, or fax, a copy of the info (ie, official pedigree, score book, etc) to verify a new entry or make a change. The burden of proof for an entry or change should be on the contributor; it should not be the responsibility of the database owner to verify if the data is correct. If it's not in an official document, it doesn't exist. No backup data, no entry. The way it's been done here is way too unstructured! I've run across numerous mistakes....though none so outrageous as the one I posted. Hopefully Workingdogportal will be more careful in what is allowed to be entered into the database. Otherwise it's just more Garbage in, Garbage out...

I will check out working dogportal,I think it will take a lot for anything to match or beat this database, even with it's problems.Every time it goes down it is for a longer period of time,people get more and more tired of the reasoning behind the failure and the inability to contact anybody regarding it,same thing for any changes that need to be made,they simply are never done.Each and every time it goes down fewer and fewer of us return. Somebody with the time,knowledge,and drive to make a go of a site like this will do so if they stick with it.The information found here is public record,one must just find and record it,then MAINTAIN same. I am by no means saying it is an easy task,in fact it should be a full time job for somebody,which is why a site like this will never last unless there is some sort of income to the site owner be it a modest fee to the users or advertising or both.None of it is rocket science,just need to have a bit of common sense ,and a whole lot of time to keep up with it.I am greatful to the owner of this site for what he or she has done,I am just am amazed as to why they would let something that not only benifits all in the GSD world but could also benifit themselves if run correctly and a fee charged just crash and remain down for over a month, only to pop back up again like nothing happened,this could in fact be very profitable website to the owners if run correctly.
