here's a little different twist on the subject. take some time to mull this over and then examine what you think about it. look at what is behind the dog. what made him what he was? let's look at mink for example. his grandsire thru his sire was greif. greif produced some really great and some not so great dogs. like any other dog. so if you don't want to line breed on mink himself, why not linebreed on greif. choose another son or grandson (or even a female) that exhibits the qualities you desire. arthus makes a good linebreeding to greif with mink. there are certainly others to choose from as well. now let's look at his dam's side. grandsire was ignaz and gr. grandsire was bernd. perhaps some of their descendants are interesting to you. to say that any certain dog is "such-and-such" or that he produces "this or that" is an oversimplification. too many factors go into the mix. figure out where the good qualities came from and double up on that. the flip side of that would naturally be to avoid doubling up on the traits you don't find desireable. for my own purpose and my own preferences, i don't like to see mink or fero more than once on a pedigree, but would have no problem in linebreeding on what is behind them. being a fado freak, i naturally have lots of harro. i think any of the 3 mentioned can certainly be used to enhance certain qualities, but if overused.....yeah, you will see some of the undesireables mentioned above.

GSDfan, Im trying to find one of him as an adult. We named him Fast Eddy. He grew to be a large Sable. His ears never came up. I purchased him from the guy who ran Peak Condition in Iowa, and ran ads for his product in Shutzhund USA.
